  1. Backup not finding my Seagate expansion drive.

    Hi,

I am running Windows 10 Pro Build 1703, prior to my update I was using my external Seagate
drive as my backup location, however since the update, backup is not finding the drive.
The drive is working perfectly for all other tasks and is shown on Disk Managment as a "healthy" drive".
I have tried everything I can think off including manually entering the drive location, however, Windows
comes back telling me the location does not exist!.....Err....Yes, it does!!

Any assistance would be most welcome.

    :)

  2. backup files with Windows 10

    thank you Anne.
I got to back up, then I selected Seagate Expansion Drive E: to be the backup location. then I just clicked backup now. So I'm trying to locate where files were stored and can't find anything from the USB flash drive
F: Maybe I should F: as a new Folder? I do not want drive F: to be the backup drive. I think of the flash drive and the Seagate External Drive both as being external drives so I want to backup files on drive F: to Seagate External Drive E: How to do?

Microsoft Windows 10 Hard Drive Icon Problem

Thank you for your reply. There was no Mxoicon6.ico on any of my hard drives when I did a search of 'This PC'. I looked at the other Seagate drive, the 5TB (a Seagate Backup Plus Drive), and saw that it had an autorun.inf newer than the one on my 2TB Seagate
(a Seagate Expansion Drive) so I copied it. The5TB drive had an icon named SeagateBackupPlus.ico so I searched This PC for all *.ico files and found an icon named SeagateExpansion.ico. It was in a backup file on the backup drive. I copied that back to the
2TB drive and restarted. It worked.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Backup not finding my Seagate expansion drive.

Hi, could you clarify what sort of backup you are attempting?

    E.g.
    - 3rd party program (which)
    - File history
    - Backup and Restore (Windows 7)

And is the drive visible in explorer?
    Thanks!

  5. Hi I am trying to backup my system using backup & restore Windows 10.
As I mentioned in my earlier post, the drive is accessible for all other tasks other than Windows 10
backup utility accessible via all settings....

To be honest, most of us here have stopped using Windows backup and restore because it has proven to be too unreliable. You have now experienced part of its unreliability. Third party imaging programs have proven to be much more reliable and flexible, such as Macrium Reflect:
Macrium Reflect Free | Macrium Software

In fact, I just went to Windows backup and restore to see if I had any problems on my computer with it seeing an external drive and mine says "This feature is not available in a portable workstation environment". So, due to it's unreliability, I can't even get into it to try to help! I wouldn't take the chance of having to face one of the problems we now both are having when it came time to restore my backup because of a hardware failure.

*Ditto - a little research on this forum on just this topic shows it's been raised a few times and mostly not resolved.

Macrium is much more robust, flexible, and well supported (except you can't post to its forum unless you've bought a license).
