    Bad Image Error - iertutil.dll

I got a BSOD while using my computer as normal, and when it reset, some of my programs don't work and they present me with a Bad Image error. I have not made any changes to the PC lately.

Known programs affected by the error:
Microsoft Office (I uninstalled this after the error, and the installer gives me the same error message)
    EA Origin
    Norton Power Eraser
Internet Explorer (doesn't respond, and doesn't give me a Bad Image error)

Discord (Discord can't update, but functions normally)
    Dropbox (same as Discord)

    Solutions I have tried:
Scan for malware with three separate programs (Malwarebytes, Norton Security Suite, Windows Defender)
Use "sfc /scannow" in admin Command Prompt (this always fails)
System Restore (I had no restore points to use)

Use "chkdsk C:" to repair the drive (Scan and repair got stuck at 100%)

Uninstall latest update (this didn't work, and the latest update was about a week ago)

Reset the PC (this was never able to finish; none of my files were altered)

Replace "iertutil.dll" with a replacement .dll (didn't work)

I know "iertutil.dll" is related to Internet Explorer, hence why it doesn't work. I will only perform a fresh Windows 10 install as a last resort, using the Media Creation Tool and a flash drive. Are there any other solutions I could try out?

Bad Image Errors - dll files changing to 0 bytes

    Hi
Have an unusual problem (to me anyway)

Last week I got "Bad Image" errors with Adobe Lightroom (the program had worked OK previously). Two .dll files were listed as corrupt and in Explorer both were shown has having 0 bytes size. Re-installation resolved the problem.
Today I have had the same "bad image" error with another program. Techsmith SnagIt. Once again it was .dll files and they show in explorer as 0 bytes. The timestamp on the 0 byte dlls is the time of the error i.e. today (not when the files were installed).

What I've done so far :
Ran McAfee viruscan across all disks - no problems reported.
Ran Malwarebytes - no problems reported

Went to the properties for the disk drive and under "Tools" ran error check - nothing found
The disk is an SSD so I went to Samsung Magician which shows drive condition as good and S.M.A.R.T. shows wear levelling count at Current Value 99. I do not use Rapid Mode.

The problems are happening on a Samsung 850 Evo 500GB

    Any suggestions welcome

    Dave

    Bad Image Error - iertutil.dll

    Bad image

Hi angelok1, usually a Bad Image error will refer to a particular dll file on your system . . .

Does the error dialog refer to a dll and if so, is it the same dll when you get that error on different apps?
