Windows 10: bad system config info

Cool I know memtest86 I've used it before. We would use it at this volunteer run non profit freegeek to check to see if they ram is okay and if it passes we will reuse it when we refurbish a computer or laptop. *Smile

 

I fan on my laptop recently broke I think. Could this be why? Kind of paranoid to replace it because it is a complicated repair lot more steps than upgrading hard drive ram or wifi card. I have a replacement fan. Is it okay to not use the one that came with the laptop? I don't think I was able to find one by that manufacture. The bad sectors happened after I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10 so not sure what is the cause. Even tho I know how to recycle computers I don't know everything. lol *Smile

 

A broken fan causes cooling issues, cooling issues causes hardware damage if the fan has not been replaced before using the pc again.
It is better to use a fan that works and later find out there might be some issues with the fan then keeping a broken fan.

The issues with the new fan might have more chance to solve then finding out that a lot of hardware needs to be replaced due to the broken fan.

 

Okay I will replace it today right now. Before doing the ram test thing. I am using ubuntu on usb stick. I have a video of a tutorial on how to do this repair on my phone. I will be back.

 

I don't have a windows computer to use these tests on. What are the alternatives for ubuntu?

I have never touched or seen an Ubuntu system.

I don't think the fan works because it stopped making the noises it usually makes to cool the laptop down. So that is probably an error that it says its okay. I feel heat coming from where the fan is located but it isn't very strong maybe the fan is burned out and can go operate at low rpms only. idk. lol.. *Smile
Should I replace the fan anyways? I have taken my laptop apart before to upgrade ram and check for where I can replace my wifi card not because it doesn't work but because I wanted to use it with an operating system with only free software or open source only no proprietary code at all.

Yes, replace the fan, never use a broken fan.

 

I will first replace the broken fan in my laptop then I will run the tests to test the hardware to see if any is faulty. After all that I will report back here.

 

Maybe my dvd/cd drive is faulty. I downloaded the microsoft windows 10 free disc two times and burned too times and it doesn't want to boot into installation window. But I am not sure I have been using to to rip dvds with handbrake and it works great for that. idk. I am able to boot into installation on windows 7 32 bit drive with virt-manager its like virtual box or vmware but free software/open source.

 

My processor is 64bit so not sure why a 32bit works only with a virtual machine. If it works in virtual machine will it work on dvd-r?

 

Is it possible for me to down grade to windows 7 from an windows 7 64bit installation dvd? Will I be able to keep my personal files?

Yes you can downgrade, but I don't know if you keep your files when downgrading.
