Battery life on my new Windows 10 Does not last

I have recently purchased this computer and was excited for the promoted long lasting batter life when using Microsoft edge but this computers battery life has been everything but long lasting. I have searched how to fix the problem numerous times and have troubleshooted my power and my windows stores apps, which showed no issues. I have restarted my computer, made all the updates I could find and yet still I open up my just 100% charged computer and it drops to 99% saying that I have 2hrs of battery life. Then within 20 minutes it jumps up to 3 hrs. and drops down to 81%. Also Microsoft edge is using all of my batter life where currently its 48% in use and 18% in the background.

My question for Microsoft is how can I improve/fix my batter life without having to switch browsers because I've spent so much time setting up my extensions and my preferences on Microsoft edge?

  2. The battery life

    Hi boerab61,

Battery life varies from phone model to phone model, even when they're from the same OEM. For instance, the HTC Titan II has a different battery life than a HTC HD7. However, your particular battery life can be varied depending on several factors:

    • Strength of your phone carrier signal. If you're in areas of low or terrible coverage, then your phone will consume more energy trying to maintain a connection with a cell tower.
    • High usage of GPS can also drain the battery quickly because the GPS sensor consumes a lot of energy. By the way, if you are using GPS a lot, you can actually improve battery life by leaving WiFi on, as Windows Phone can quickly pull geolocation info from
WiFi routers, even if you're not connected to them.
With that in mind, here's some suggestions to try to extend the life of your battery.

Reduce the load on your battery:

    • Decrease screen brightness.

    • Set Timeout duration on Backlight.

    • Set Auto-Off Timeout duration for 1 minute or less (device turns off).
    • Throttle down your CPU speed.

    • Remove external devices (SD Cards, etc)
Turn off appropriate radios on your device:

    • Turn off Bluetooth transceiver when not in use.

    • Turn off WiFi transceiver when not in use (except when using GPS).

    • Turn off GPS receiver when not in use.

    • Turn off Cell transceiver when not in use.
Change the way you do things with your device:

    • Minimize media playback use.
    • Minimize use of e-mail and browsing.

    • Once in a while (every few weeks), drain battery until dead, then recharge 100%
    • Keep a spare charger in your car and/or office.

Again, these are the ways you can consume battery life and yes, some are extreme but if you're serious about conserving your phone's battery, these are some great suggestions.

    I hope this helps!

Battery Life on a new Lenovo Flex 15

    Hi Cheerio__,

In looking at your laptop specifications it says you should be getting about 8.5 hours of battery life. If you are not there are a few things we can do to see if we can increase battery life...

    Step 1 - Battery Save

Windows 10 has a great new Video Battery Saver built in. If you go to Start > type in Battery Saver Settings > click Battery Saver Settings

At the bottom of that page you will see a link called Change battery settings for playing video, click that link

Make sure Optimize for battery life is chosen.

Step 2 - Run the power troubleshooter

Select the Start button and then type in Settings

    Click Settings

    Click Update & Security

    Click Troubleshoot on the left

    Choose Power

    Run the troubleshooter

This may find ways to assist in battery life.

Step 3 - Run a Clean Boot Scenario and see if a service is possibly eating your battery life

Follow the steps below to do a clean boot:

Try using Netflix, etc - do you see a significant battery life increase from this?

Try the above steps and if you need anything further, don't hesitate to reach out to me as I will be here to assist.
