That's mainly promotional type stuff to begin with. It's meant to be easy to remove otherwise people would be after Acer about it!

As far as what protections you decided on will generally depend on much usage the Acer will be seeing. Have a 2yr. subscription on the laptop bought in January I could see upgraded from the Internet Security Suite to Internet Security Pro but the $10 upgrade offer was back at the start of the year. The desktops fall under the lifetime of device licensing or 2027 whichever comes first. That avoids the "oh I forgot the renewal" in 2 or 3yrs. time.

  3. Some AVs will raise havoc on Steam games while not Steam itself. You have to look at the particular games themselves to see which ones have known issues where the system protections are turned off during gaming sessions. Some involve online multi-player sessions rather then with 1st person single player type play.

ACER is commonly associated with "medium to bad quality" but I like them. Toshibas are also good. And yes, ACER bundles less crapware than other companies (I am looking at you HP). The best thing after purchasing a laptop is to do a clean Windows installation. You are welcome.

  5. The last part comes only after initial dealer/factory warranty period has expired. About HP no thanks not again!

I use their printers regularly but about their laptops? Those unfortunately come with 2hr. batteries for a start while a new Toshiba comes with a 4hr. battery. The touch pads are not as good. The displays on a Toshiba or Acer are actually more vibrant colorwise as seen often noting the Acer and HP lcds side by side. And the lifespan for Toshiba outlasts HP!

Case in point: friend's old 2007 Vista laptop still going strong(Toshiba) compared to an HP 7 laptop bought for someone in 2012, The present Toshiba 10 laptop was ordered in January as a quick replacement for the HP laptop that suddenly let go in only 4yrs. time. The OEM crapware was about the only thing that wasn't so much of a big deal with either of those two brands however. The HP had been covered under the 5-10 devices of the lifetime license for the AV software and then needed to see a brand new sub for the first 2yrs. on the new Toshiba.

I have to agree. They both are nice AV tools.

  7. Here with paid for software which offers internet security as well as filtering out questionable sites the idea would be "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". When you can find free web filtering and internet security as well as immediate scans and detection upon fresh downloads that will tend to go much further then any AV program by itself free or otherwise.

Unfortunately the free internet security toolbars made mainly for IE with some FF capable are typically doors left open for exploits. And placing too much confidence in any one program is the road to disaster in the long run! In actuality there is no actual "BEST AV" program to be found. Not one will ever found 100% fail safe since new vulnerabilities are found and exploited daily.

Here's some "Food for Thought" I thought I would toss in here since we have back on the "Which is Best" topic once again. This is from the latest newsletter for the VIPRE blog.
