Windows 10: Best Multi-User Email App?

Hello. I am looking for an email app that will support 2 users, each with 2 different email accounts (one gmail and one outlook account each). Ideally they would like to use a single email program for both of them but would like separate inboxes for each person.

So, ideally:

• One email program.
• Two inboxes, with each inbox collecting email from a unique gmail account and a unique outlook account.

Will be interested in any suggestions.

And unfortunately, you can't use WiFi sync on a multi-user computer due to this bug in Zune that tries to sync the phone no matter which user is logged in. Best keep WiFi sync off.

^ why people don't bother helping others. You weren't insulted and no judgements were made... only free valuable advice given ;-) Using an ISPs email account was ok in the dialup era but has long lost it's purpose. Verizon.net (personal webmail pop only)
account is lacking from a mobile & multi-user perspective. Having verizon.net as a personal email limits you, hence this conversation & support inquiry. There are better, free services to fix. Sure WP7 could handle pop3 better (leave messages on server option)
but the user could mange their email accounts better also.

Best fix is FORWARD (free) from vzw and don't use that pop box... use the address as a forward to a better mailbox. Good luck.

What's wrong with Windows mail app?

 

This is for some older friends. They don't like web based email and want a dedicated email app. I am unfamiliar with Windows email apps, hence my query here. I don't know that there is anything wrong with Windows Mail. If you are confident that it will support the needs that I outlined in my query, then it will likely be a good solution.

 

I should have also noted that someone currently has them set up with the Thunderbird email client, but while it handles all 4 of their email accounts, it shows them as 4 separate inboxes in the Thunderbird app. They each have to check 2 inboxes for their gmail and outlook mail. They are wanting a solution that pares that down to just 1 inbox for each of them.

 

You can use the Mail App built into Windows 10. I use it with Gmail and Outlook Mail Accounts.
There is the option in Settings > Manage Accounts > Link Inboxes.

Outlook still really is the best if you have ms Office -- it works with multiple accounts and also if you need to get email from EXCHANGE type servers ( a lot of work type emails use these).

Thunderbird does all this too and is reasonably "outlook like although there's a bit of a learning curve.
I think all email clients will show different accounts as having different inboxes -- if you want all incoming emails to go to a specific account I believe you can do this with some sort of email forwarding with both outlook and thunderbird - I'm not a specialist in this type of stuff though.

If you can get email forwarding or aliasing to work you can set outlook when it starts to open a specific inbox - it's in the options.

I'd set up a specific email account to receive emails from their standard accounts, auto forward to this inbox and get outlook to open that account automatically.

Not sure if thunderbird can do it -- might play around later.

Another possibility is buy a cheap domain -- anything.eu or whatever these all have an email program in them - give this out as your standard email address and set that program to forward the relevant outlook account --- most of these hosted domains allow several mailboxes so your 4 accounts could easily be auto forwarded to the relevant outlook account. Hosted domains with minimal requirements can cost as little as 10 USD a year -- cheaper than mail forwarding programs .

In the work scenario, I used the Outlook Mail client, but then I did not have to pay for that.

 

This depends on how you configure Thunderbird. I have multiple accounts, 1 inbox. It is one I recall struggling with for a time last time I added an account.

Unfortunately they don't have MS Office, so don't have Outlook. But the "linked inbox" option in the Windows 10 Mail app looks promising. I will have to look into that. Now I just have to get them off of their old Windows 7 PC and onto a new PC running Windows 10. They have been borderline on pulling the trigger but if I can meet their email desires with Windows 10, I think it will seal the deal.

 

Interesting. I will have to dig a bit deeper into Thunderbird. So far I have found it to be fairly capable, but not easy to figure out once you get past the basics. The documentation on their web pages isn't all that great.
