Windows 10: Best program(s) for protection on Windows 10?

I've used Norton Internet Security for years and will never use anything else. I have never had a virus or malware. It's little enough to pay for security in these times when it seems like everyone is trying to hack, throttle and attack.

 

What's wrong with Windows' Defender?

 

Its ok if you don't want to invest some money into a better one. Its just a simple program, and I don't feel it will protect my computers as well as commercial firewalls. If you feel safe running it, then by all means do. I prefer Nortons 360 and Malware bytes combo. *Smile

 

100% nothing wrong with it. I've used MSE since it came out on W7 on three computers. Not once have I had an issue in five years. Now on 10 I'm using Defender (which is to be a good upgrade from MSE), and again on the three. I don't need to worry about threats. I do use common sense like scanning web page links, or downloads, with Virustotal.com if I'm not sure BEFORE I go to the page, or do the download, and then again after the download. I also use WOT as a visual tool, but don't trust it as much as Defender or Virustotal.com. Of course YMMV.

 

There's no need to use the Pro version of Malwarebytes, especially if you have another AV scanner.

The entire point is to pick one active scanner (free or not), then use the free version of Malwarebytes on demand, when you want a "second opinion". There's no need to run two active scanners at once, or you may end up crippling your system's performance.

 

Well I have Nortons 360 Premier on both my computers, and have Malwarebytes Pro Running right next to it, again on both my computers, been doing it for about year and a half now, with no conflicts with either program. *Smile

 

My parents are the worst when it comes to getting infected , i set them up with Kaspersky and they have been clean for two years, really amazing.

 

You must have one of them shut down as an active scanner, which means it was money spent for no reason. Two active scanners at once has never been a good idea.

 

After being informed BitDefender Free wasn't 100% compatible with Windows 10, I reinstalled my license for Norton Internet Security since I still have three months left. After doing that suffered some problems like stalled computer shutdown, the Explorer would lock up, and Chrome would take a few minutes to start. Not sure what that's all about, but as soon as I uninstalled it everything went back to normal.

 

It's possible something was left behind from BitDefender that caused a conflict with Norton. AV software have been notorious for having poor uninstallers.

 

I used Revo Uninstaller to remove all left over files. It's pretty good about cleansing the system.

 

That's what happens when you exchange a bloated AV with other bloated AV in terms of OS integration/hindering it's operation.

 

No DeaconFrost BOTH are active and already talked to the techs on Malwarebytes and they assured me that their program would run fine WITH Norton 360. Have had it setup like this on both my computers for like I said over a year and a half. No problems. They run their scans at different times, hours apart.

 

Those are scheduled scans. Active scanners also check what needs to be checked, such as a downloaded file. They may have an option to make their software take a back seat if it detects another active scanner. It's never been advised to do so, and there really isn't a reason to do so. One active scanner with a passive second opinion works very well, especially if the user can also help protect the system. If it works for you, great, but it isn't something you'll see advised.
