Windows 10: Best to Upgrade Win 7 or a new installation of Win 10 Pro?

The Upgrade Tool said that is was okay to upgrade. It has some pretty decent specs so don't think that is the issue. I think it may be something to do with all the HP Junk on it, this is just from what I've read, maybe not. But this pc is one of the most loaded I've ever seen with HP Junk because it was a business pc.
I'm Updating now, it was stuck somewhere in 2015.

I don't think I can Clean Install, though like Caledon Ken is saying, if so please elaborate, I lost the link that someone here was saying they did this. I think it may have been back when W10 was free.

Another thing is, I still have that Update that says Windows 10 is not longer free, and I think this is the culprit...possibly....maybe? Meaning I think Windows 10 was being offered to the computer when it was free, but the owner did not accept it, then that grace period passed and now it is being blocked. I'm hoping the Updates will fix this because I cannot find the Update. Anyone have any info on that?

Each computer manufacturer has software that the end user can install onto the drive.
Some of this software can interfere with an upgrade.
This surprises many people.
In addition multiple BIOS updates can contribute to the windows upgrade problems.
So consider creating a new thread and post links to the Panther logs for troubleshooting.

 

The free upgrade still works.

1. You can do it like this if you have 7 installed Clean Install Windows 10 Directly without having to Upgrade First Installation Upgrade Tutorials

There have been some posts saying it will stop working at the end of the year but how true they are I dunno. The first option worked for me a couple of months ago and according to posts on the tutorial still does.

Probably worth doing this month anyway to get the license.

You can worry about missing drivers (if any) later. In my experience (on several machines) only drivers for my old Lenovo GPRS SIM weren't downloaded. All the rest worked OK automatically.

2. That is good information, exactly what I was interested in, because I know this will at least install it, but don't know if that will get me the license. I don't want to waste to much time doing that if I don't get the license, so will take my time to see if we can come up with something else.

I have upgraded two Win7 machines with Office preinstalled, one with Office 2007, the other with Office Starter 2010. Both version of Office came through the upgrade without a problem.

Well, on the 14th hour and finally after running all night the machine is at 99% complete.You can minimize and keep working.

 

Back to my wife's unit that would not update. I created a boot USB and tried again. NO GO... thus......

The support for NX has been a requirement for Windows since Windows 8. You can check the capabilities of your CPU with Coreinfo from Sysinternals.

Some systems with an NX-capable CPU have it turned off in the BIOS (though I would have expected Setup to say 'not enabled' rather than 'doesn't support'). Check the manual for your wife's system.

Bree, can't remember specifics but with some processors if you dropped down to a 32 bit version Windows 10 would work.
