  2. Windows Defender

    Interesting ...

In Windows 7 Home Premium, Defender worked perfectly with both Avast! and Malwarebytes installed,

In the preview version of Window 10 it did not work with just Avast! loaded.

When I loaded the real Windows 10, Defender came back alive with both Avast! and Malwarebytes.

Tonight when I did an update to Windows, Defender stopped working again.

Tried changing the Windows group policy and the Defender screen comes up, but it does not start showing an Error Code 0x8007139f.

Weird that it works fine sometimes and not others.

Can you uninstall them from programs and features, reboot and reinstall?

Probably not. Sounds like the installations of both programs have become corrupt for whatever reason.

There might be a way to fix the current installations, but it could also take more time than what I’m suggesting.

It also won’t hurt to just try and install the programs on top the current installation, skipping the uninstall part. That may also repair the problem.

But I didnt install them after 1709 was updated. As I already explained the FCU 1709 update made these progrmas not work.

Just so I understand you, these programs were installed prior to installing FCU, correct?

If this is the case as I mentioned, trying reinstalling them overtop their current, non-functional installs to see if they work. If that doesn’t fix the problem, uninstall both programs from “programs and features” in the control panel. Once that’s done, install them and see if they’re working again.

Beyond that, someone else with more knowledge will need to assist you.

Is Windows Defender off ? Check the Windows Defender Security Center. If not off, use this tutorial.

Have all updates to the FCU installed ?

Sometimes updates may effect apps. As vram states, best option may be to uninstall/reinstall.

(At your convenience, good to list your system specs under My Computer beneath username data)

Let us get a clean install of the current version. 3.3.1

We have another tool called MB-Clean which will automate the whole process for you.
Tool can be found at https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb_clean

    1. After downloading the tool run the tool.
    2. The tool will automatically clean up the older possibly damaged installation and will ask you for a restart.
    3. Restart your system and then the MB-Clean tool will prompt you to re-install the latest product .
    4. Click on "Yes" to reinstall MB 3.×.
    5. Now you will have the latest product installed. If it does not offer the new install after the reboot you can download and install from here.
    https://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mb3
Please let me know if you are still seeing issues after the latest product install.
