  1. Big problems with update KB4056892

The KB4056892 update was successfully installed on here on the 5th of January. I have an HP Envy x360 Convertible 15-bq0xx with Windows 10 64 bit and a AMD A9 -9420 Radeon R5 Processor.

After seeing this post I'm wondering if that update is the cause of the odd random shutdowns I've been getting. There is no pattern to them I could be in the middle of moving around a forum or perhaps in my email program when suddenly the screen goes black, after a few seconds it starts back up, sometimes it does a complete boot up with looking for me, I have facial log on, other times it might just come back at the desktop and I have to bring the browser back up and get the message do I want to restore as it didn't shut down properly, clicking that and I'm back in the exact place I was before. Sometimes I have to wait for the internet connection to catch up and re-connect me and at others I'm still connected.

    Whats the thoughts here ?

  2. Since the release of the Spectre and Meltdown fixes there has been all kinds, in my opinion, reports of random boots. Started with AV's not conforming to rules, then AMD documentation was centered out. Even Intel posted something that Brink has in the Windows news on random reboots. Vendors even released BIOS updates they seem to be retracting on. Here is an article on HP.

    http://www.zdnet.com/article/spectre...pdates-coming/

Myself I see little harm in uninstalling updates especially if you think they are the cause. Most of us don't open unexpected attachments, surf sites we know and have good AV's.

If the uninstall doesn't fix, re-install. If it does fix your situation your voice can be added to the feedback hub.

This Spectre / Meltdown fix is likely more complicated than they realized and will take more that one or two tries to resolve.

    One opinion.

  3. I don't have Intel, the first line in my post did state I had an AMD processor on this HP and I don't click on unexpected attachments and only visit sites that I trust, Windows Defender and MalwareBytes Premium with Anti Exploit are my security plus my own common sense.

I only got it at the end of December and it's all up to date via Windows Update, I'm at version 1709 build 16299.192.

Yes I saw you had AMD, I only mentioned Intel as they seem to be the last one reporting issues.

As I said I would remove the update and test.

  5. It seems as if Intel were the main one affected when this all started, I can't remember now which one it was but Shawn did have a post that showed whether your machine was affected and I know mine wasn't at that time. I know I'm tempting fate but I think for the time being I'll leave things as they are, not had any problems for the last couple of days, fingers crossed. *Zip

  8. Big problems with update KB4056892

I would like to share my problems with the following updates:

    KB4056892, KB4056887 & Flash Player update.

My AMD machine FX6350 / GTX1050Ti, kept saying restart to install these 3 updates. I had restarted more than 3 times & I investigated why they were not installing, it was because they was already installed on the computer after checking the KB install list !

So my assumption was a corrupt install but the first thing I did was go to Microsoft Update Catalogue & manually download the KB updates as self installers as I had just created an .iso disk of the fall update for re-install purposes, I think this update is better as a re-install from ISO / USB.

    Microsoft Update Catalogue Link:
    Microsoft Update Catalog

I re-installed my W10, added all my drivers & then installed KB4056892 & KB4056887 self installers in offline mode & have had no problems since the middle of Jan 2018 & all is running smoothly.

Update fails. Repeatedly requests reboot to finish. Reboot does nothing.

FIX: When installing this update be sure you are logged in with the user account that owns your W10 license. Use winver to check to see which user owns the license. NOTE: If you had to manually install the original upgrade to windows 10 you are likely to be affected.
