  1. BIOS and Device Manager Detecting 2nd HDD, but not in Files

    Hi everyone,

So long story short, copped a corrupted filed and needed to reset my computer.

After spending 3 days on the phone to Windows support, we finally got it to work,

having wiped both the hard drives.

Everything seems like it is working, but when I went to download and install my apps

and such, Windows 10 won't detect my HDD. It is detected in my bios, and in device

manager but not in "This PC" in File Explorer.

This is incredibly crippling as my SSD is 60GB as it was only intending to contain my

OS, with the HDD containing everything else. Please help me.

    :)

After upgrading to Windows 10 - 2nd and 3rd HDDs cannot be seen??????

    Hi,

What is the make and model of your computer?

I suggest you to check in BIOS setting whether both the HDD are listed there. You may get in touch with your computer manufacturer or refer to the user manual on how to enter BIOS settings.

If it is listed in BIOS, you may check whether you are able to see both the HDD in Disk Management. Follow the steps to check:

    Press Windows Key + X.

    Click on Disk Management.

Please reply us with the required information to assist you further.

  3. Device Manager Un-Hiding Hidden Devices

When you connect a plug and play device, Windows Plug and Play manager detects it, finds and installs the driver. Device Manager lists the device with a solid icon.

The driver is only removed when you uninstall the device, not simply by disconnecting the device. When the device is disconnected, its driver is still installed. By default, Device Manager only displays connected devices. When you show hidden devices, note the Bluetooth icon you see is semi-transparent (not opaque). That indicates a "non-present" device. Sometimes also called a "ghost" device. The driver is still installed but the device is not currently detected (i.e. not connected).

    Device can be disconnected when
    • Device unplugged (e.g. removing a USB device)
    • Turning a device OFF
    • Disabling the device in BIOS (then windows won't detect it) or
    • Device failure

    So
    • Check BIOS as suggested
    • Check board connections
    • Can b/t be turned off by a switch? or keyboard combination?
Also possible the b/t h/w failed

    USB HDD: IN BIOS

Hi AJAY, in modern BIOS (UEFI) it is normal to have USB devices listed, such as USB HDD without drive being plugged in.

In older Legacy BIOS, a drive would have to be plugged in for it to be listed in BIOS, but not no londer . . .
