Windows 10: BitDefender: Getting Started With Questions (Sr. Citizen Level)

Hello,

Just installed Bitdefender. Brand new desktop PC.
Think it went O.K.

But a few items popped up that I'm not too sure about:

a. It said it found a problem.. When i clicked on it, it said that
"AntiPhising Filter Is Disabled"
Then, Click To Fix.
When I clicked to fix, presumably, it came back with "Fixing Failed"

So, what is this anti-phising filter ?
Anything to be concerned about ?
Why couldn't it "fix" it ?

b. There is a "Profile" button, with an Activate Now button.
Clicking on it doesn't seem to do anything.
What is it ?
Should clicking on it do "something" ?

c. There is also an "Autopilot" button.
Again, clicking on it does nothing.
What is it for ? How to use, if desirable ?

d. Anything I should run concurrently, such as perhaps AVG Free, MalwareBytes, or... ?
Don't mind spending a few more $ if it would be worthwhile.
If yes, do these "play well" together ?

Also got a pop-up msg., possibly not from BitDefender that my Firewall is turned Off.
Should I turn it On ? What are the implications to doing so ?
If I should, how do I do it ?

Windows 10 and Bitdefender Conflict

As a follow up question.

I've uninstalled BitDefender, but it had somehow disabled Windows Defender. I've tried several times to start Windows Defender but it says it is turned off.

How does one enable Windows Defender after it was disabled by BitDefender?

After being forced to do a clean Windows install in two other computers to get rid of BitDefender, and get Windows Defender to run, I consider BitDefender to be a virus!

We'll need to wait for someone here who is familiar with BD, or perhaps you might want to check with their support resources?
If your BD product does not include a firewall, then you will need either a software firewall (built-in Windows firewall or 3rd-party), and/or a hardware firewall (router).

d)
NO, do NOT install another anti-virus (AV), such as AVG, Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro, Kaspersky, F-Secure, etc..
It's very important to have ONLY one AV installed and running. Having more than one is a set-up for problems and does NOT enhance security. More is NOT better when it comes to installing AVs. (And Windows Defender should be fully disabled from the Control Panel, manually if necessary, although BD probably automatically disables it when it installs.)
IOW, it's important NOT to install 2 programs that do the "same" thing.

On the other hand, layering complementary types of protection is fine.
As for MBAM, as was explained in at least one of your other threads here and several other time, YES, you may wish to add a layer of realtime protection with MBAM Premium (paid). It will help to prevent zero-hour and zero-day threats often missed by AVs. MBAM Free does NOT provide realtime protection -- it is only a manual, on-demand scanner to REMOVE infections already on the system.
You may wish to add an additional layer with MBAE, to help shield browsers and other internet-facing applications against exploits, a common means of malware delivery.

Antiphishing blocks websites that try to steal r personal info, e.g. a website that tries to look like r bank to trick into logging in on it which actually justs send them r email and password.

What do mean by "presumably"? Did it give an error?

Profiles just adjust the settings of Bitdefender for certain scenarios. For example, if 're playing a video game on r computer in full screen, activating the Game profile will tell Bitdefender to disable notifications so aren't interrupted while playing. Autopilot, when activated, automatically selects it for . For example, autopilot enables game mode when it knows that a game is running. Autopilot also manages some other stuff, including fixing security problems automatically. Here is some more information about that: What are the Bitdefender profiles and how do they work?
What is Autopilot mode?

Bitdefender Antivirus Plus and Free do not have the Bitdefender Firewall, but every other version does to my knowledge. If have one of these versions that doesn't have a firewall, can use the firewall that comes with Windows, Windows Firewall. That message is probably telling to enable Windows Firewall. If it is, then click on it and it should enable it. Or just follow these steps to enable it: Turn Windows Firewall on or off - Windows Help -


If have a version other than the ones mentioned above, the Bitdefender Firewall is included. Open Bitdefender. If Bitdefender isn't reporting problems ( have a green check mark in Bitdefender), its firewall is enabled already and can disregard any messages to enable Windows Firewall. If Bitdefender has a red X, then click it and check for messages about the firewall. If there aren't any messages about the firewall, it is already enabled and the X is for another problem. Either way, click Fix (even if the X is not for the firewall, should fix it anyway). The firewall should be enabled in Bitdefender. To make sure that it is or to enable it rself, open Bitdefender and will see the check/X with " are protected" or " are at risk" and a bunch of large buttons. Click the Modules button at the bottom with the arrow pointing down and click Firewall. At the very top, where it says "module status is", the box next to it should look like this:
