Windows 10: BitLocker can't backup to Microsoft account..??

I'm running a Surface Book 1 with fresh install of Windows and all current updates applied.


I am using an MS Live account, and everything about that on here is working as expected except for BitLocker.


When I try to enable BitLocker and backup my keys to my MS account I'm getting this error: https://snag.gy/lY4dQB.jpg


I am signed in to Windows with a Microsoft account, though. I'd rather not save to text or print. I want to save to my account.


I was actually having this same problem when I was doing the fresh install. I needed my BitLocker key in order to wipe the drive for install, but when I would come here and click to View on MS Account it was giving me this same error.


I assumed it was one of the many problems I was having (which is why I did the clean install) so I didn't think much of it. I was able to obtain the keys from the MS account where I had backed them up there previously (when this problem must not have been happening.)


I was surprised to run into this same problem now trying to setup fresh BitLocker after fresh install.


Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Remove account


I suggest you backup your personalized files first before removing the account.
To delete an account, follow these steps:

1. Press WIN + X keys and click Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.
2. Type the following command and press Enter. Replace test with the name of your sister's account. Code:

where to find bitlocker key?

The BitLocker key is in one of the three places that the program suggested to you:

• In a folder of your choice.
• Jotted down on a piece of paper.
• In your Microsoft account (if you have one).

Which one did you select at the time of encryption?

Did you create a backup of your data?

 

Cannot Save Bitlocker Recovery Key to Microsoft Account

I have a brand new Surface Pro with Windows 10. I am attempting to enable BitLocker.

From the Control Panel / Manage Bitlocker, I click "Turn on BitLocker".

I am given a question, "How do you want to backup your recovery key?" and I choose, "Save to your Microsoft account."

I am greeted with a popup, "Bitlocker Drive Encryption error. Can't sign in to your Microsoft account. You need to be signed in to Windows with a Microsoft account to save your recovery key. Sign out and hen sign in with a Microsoft account, or go to
Settings and choose Accounts to change your existing account."

I am signed in, but I went through these steps again, but I am unable to save my recovery key to my Microsoft account.

How do I fix this?
