Windows 10: BitLocker recovery key needed - Lenovo Yoga 920 laptop locked up

I agreed to begin an upgrade of my Lenovo laptop PC earlier today, I did not know this also involved a BIOS upgrade.

I now have a 'blue screen of death' with the heading 'BitLocker' which I'm unable to get past, tried rebooting many times. The screen is asking me to enter a 'recovery key' - which I don't have. Win 10 came pre-installed on the laptop.

This is no help because:

I am locked out of my microsoft account because the account had an old phone number, which I updated, your security policy then locked me out for 30 days, nice.

I do not have a 'print out' of the recovery key as I didn't install the OS. I have all the original documentation which came with the PC, there is no 'recovery key' in that documentation.

I do not have a Microsoft USB for the laptop. The other points don't apply. There is a 'recovery key ID' showing on the blue screen. I presume it's not a good idea to post that code here. I presume, once I have the attention of someone from MS you can use the ID to find my 'recovery key'. Is that correct? And how do I get someone's attention?


I have tried calling MS for support, I was nice and reasonable, the gentleman on the other end said something about needing to get into my PC, then he hung up. I called again, recorded message saying there was a wait, could I leave a message, left a message, no call back.


Please, I need this laptop for study, it was a very expensive purchase, I'm just a student wanting to use the laptop for study. Why have I been locked out of my own computer?

I've paid for the OS with the PC purchase, I've paid for support with that purchase. I also have an ongoing lease for MS Office suite. How about some support please?

Lenovo Yoga Book locked by BItLocker

Hello,

I have a Lenovo Yoga Book Tablet (model: YB1-X91L) that is locked by BitLocker encrypting.

Microsoft account synchronized with this tablet is locked too and I can't access it. I don't know what is the period that my account remain locked, thus how can I find the recovery key. Finally, I need to know how can we solve this problem?

Bitlocker Key Recovery

My motherboard fried on my old Lenovo yoga 920 laptop. Nothing backed up, so I am having old hard drive put into a new laptop, however it requires a bitlocker recovery key. That device was on an old Microsoft account with an old email that I do not have
a password for. Can I send the serial number of my old Yoga to a Microsoft representative to retrieve? Thanks

Hi Krib,

Not sure why your Yoga 920 is acting up but if you've got Lenovo Companion you could open it and click System Update to see if there are any drivers for the Wi-Fi card. I'm running a 2017 Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga and have no Wi-Fi issues. The laptop is running Windows 10 Pro. with the Fall Creator Update (1709).

Anyway see if there are any drivers for that laptop and go from there.
