  1. BITS error 0x8E5E0641

Ever since a forced shutdown yesterday on my Windows 10 machine I've been getting "The BITS service failed to start. Error 0x8E5E0641." with Event ID 16392 in my Event Viewer. This is also followed by another Error in my Event Viewer with the Event ID 7024 that states:

"The description for Event ID 7024 from source Service Control Manager cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

    Background Intelligent Transfer Service

    %%2388526657

The locale specific resource for the desired message is not present"

This is sometimes also followed by another Error with the Event ID 10010 that states: "The server {4991D34B-80A1-4291-83B6-3328366B9097} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout." which also seems to be BITS related.

It hasn't effected anything yet concerning my updates, as I am still able to install windows defender updates just fine.

I've tried pretty much every BITS problem solution that I have found so far. I tried sfc /scannow, any dism.exe commands, renaming the catroot and SoftwareDistribution folders, deleting and creating the FilesNotToBackup registry key, and running the windows update troubleshooter from the Windows 10 troubleshooting menu.

The Windows 10 troubleshooting menu says "Service registration is missing or corrupt" and is "Not fixed"

I have scanned my entire computer with MalwareBytes and did not find any issues.

I would really appreciate if someone could help me fix this BITS error.

    :)

  3. BITS error 0x8E5E0641

Hi Stephen. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP here to help you.

I would manually upgrade to the latest version by opening the Media Creation Tool from this link:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...
, choose Download Tool Now, then open the tool and choose Upgrade This PC Now.

This saves your files, apps and most settings in place, is the most stable method to change versions, brings your Updates current, resolves most problems.

If any problems report back the verbatim error and number, then continue with these steps for overcoming Version Upgrade problems:

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

If you prefer to spend more time troubleshooting, then see if you have tried everything in this tutorial for BITS error:

    https://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/background-inte...

Then go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done:

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account. Then continue
with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

Update your drivers and BIOS/UEFI firmware from PC or motherboard maker's Support Downloads web page, using the full model number, Serial Number or Dell Service Tag on sticker. Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed
in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

Updating drivers from the Device Manager or Windows Update is rarely enough. The most basic thing we need to learn to maintain a PC is keep the latest manufacturer's drivers installed from their Support Downloads web page.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you'll wait to rate whether my post helped you, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

  4. BITS error 0x8E5E0641

Color bit depth is at 6-bit on Display properties of Windows 10 pro

Try the below suggested steps and check if the suggested options are available to change the Color bit Depth value

    1. Right click on the desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
    2. Expand the Display, and then highlight the Change resolution.
    3. On the right side, check if there is 8 bpc listed under
      Output color depth.
    4. You may select 8 bpc and restart the device to witness the changes.
