  1. Black screen after RESTART.

    Hello,

I have made a complete, fresh install of Windows 10 Pro on HP 6300 Microtower.
During the installation process, Windows 10 restarted and... I saw black screen for quite a long time.
So I held POWER button for 5 seconds, PC turned off... Turned it on again and... it took almost a minute, till boot screen appeared!
Right before the screen appeared, I've heard something like fans spinning. Pretty weird.

This happens everytime I restart the system from Windows 10.
Otherwise the system works like charm.
    Sleep works without any problems.
Shutdown > Turn on shows boot screen immediately.

Seems like Windows 10 > Restart is sending wrong signals to the hardware... which then crashes and needs a MINUTE to recover next time I turn it on!

    What I tried:

    1. Turning off FAST START-UP (in Power settings).
    2. Updating drivers (latest Intel Chipset drivers and running Intel installer too).
    3. Loading BIOS defaults.

    Any ideas, please?

    Thank you,
    Jan.

    :)

As PCR suggestd, if the system doesn't even allow you to enter BIOS without a storage drive with a single stick of memory (I hope you tried each stick on each slot) and after resetting the CMOS battery nothing changed I'd take the
computer to a repair shop and see what the guys there can find out. It could be a failed part such as a CPU or a motherboard or simply a disconnected cable to the monitor.

Let us know how this goes!

Does your PC have an AMD/ATI graphics chip or are you using the Intel Integrated Graphics? It used to happen to me quite often after I installed my Graphics Card(AMD R9 380)for the first time, but after a few driver and windows updates it went away. Seeing as to how it is a fresh install, make sure Windows is updated completely. If you can still see the mouse cursor moving around the black screen, this is most likely the issue. If not, after it boots, try checking your hard drive for errors or possible failures. CrystalDiskMark is a very easy to get program that highlights any hardware issues with your storage devices.

  5. No AMD, I only have integrated Intel graphics.

Windows was completely updated before I posted here. Checked it now and no new update.

    CrystalDiskInfo says no issues whatsoever.

  6. In that case, I recommend opening up an elevated command prompt and running System File Checker and check for errors. It's not exactly common that a new Windows installation has errors, but it does happen.

The command would be: "sfc /scannow" without the quotes.

You can also look in Reliability Monitor to see if it's showing any kind of errors. Usually, but not always, a black screen indicates some kind of issue with the graphics/display driver. I believe you're using built-in Intel graphics, so you might want to visit station-drivers.com and see if you can find something newer and possible more stable to try out.

    Tried both.

    1. sfc /scannow
    - tells everything is ok.

    2. I reinstalled Intel graphics driver... and went even further.
Updated all the drivers through Driver Booster 4... but no luck.

But then I decided to do a thing that finally solved the problem.

    Flash a new BIOS.

Went from version 2.05 to 2.99... and Restart from Windows now turns the machine off (for 2-3 seconds)... and it turn itself on automatically and starts properly.
Which is pretty new to me... haven't experienced something like that before.
But at least serves the purpose.

It seems there's some kind of "special restart" going on...
If somebody knows what's going on, it would be nice to tell us.
    But otherwise, consider this SOLVED.

Big thanks to everybody for your advice!

    Best,
    Jan.
