  2. Blue screen of death while updating to WIN 10

    Hi,

    Sorry for the delay.

We have been seeing black screen issues of several types after upgrading to Windows 10. The main causes observed so far are driver issues, output to unexpected port, and possibly also issues with the Lock Screen app. Please use these steps:

    • Try connecting to different video outputs on the PC. Sometimes a change in driver can cause the video to be sent:
      • To a different Adapter: from integrated graphics to a discrete card or vice versa.
      • To a different output: from HDMI to DVI, DisplayPort to VGA, or any other combination.
    • Try to boot into Safe Mode with Networking or Enable low-resolution video.
      • Advanced boot options, Safe Mode with Networking, or Low Resolution Video
      • Check Device Manager and look for Display Adapters
        • If you see 2 items under Display Adapters, disable the integrated video card (e.g. Intel HD 4000 or AMD Radeon HD 4200) and restart. (try vice versa if it does not work)
        • If you see 1 item under Display Adapters, rollback the driver or uninstall the display adapter in Device Manager, and enable the option to delete driver software.
      • Check the PC or display adapter manufacturer’s site for an updated driver.

We are seeing updated drivers from all of the major video chipset manufacturers. So the best driver will often be only days old.

Refer to the following articles which speak about the possible causes and resolutions for these kind of issues:

Black Screen of Death while updating from 8.1 to 10.

Secure boot or fast boot enabled in bios? long shot but worth a try. Clear CMOS just incase? Just saying as fast boot caused me BSOD on reboot.

Guys, if you have finished the upgrade but only get a black screen of death with a white cursor AFTER LOGGING IN and even safe mode won't help, then there is a way to restore!

You have to, from the lock screen or Ctrl Alt Del screen, click the Power menu, hold SHIFT and click restart.

This will open up the blue menu. Go to advanced settings, > advanced start up settings.

Then the computer will reboot with a blue menu like this: http://www.eightforums.com/attachmen...p_settings.jpg

You have to press F10 for more options, then "1" for recovery options.

Then the PC will reboot into the same original blue menu, but this time with more options. There is a small option at the bottom that says "more settings" and then on there you can click "Revert to previous build".

This took about 5 minutes and I was back in Windows 8.1 still asking me to upgrade again.

    I hope this helps!

Black Screen of Death while updating from 8.1 to 10.

    This fix worked for me.
If you are at the black screen and cursor, then Microsoft says you may be at your boot signon screen but are unable to view the screen. The sign on is still there. So here is their fix:
    1. Push the control key. (This moves the focus to the password box)
    2. Enter your logon password and push <Enter>. (When I did this the cursor vanished.)
NOW WAIT. It took my relatively fast Alien computer about 5 minutes to finish the set up and (SMILE) there was Windows 10.
NOTE: If you have been pushing on the keyboard, you may need to reboot to get to a clean log on page to perform the above log on in the dark.
    GOOD LUCK.
