"Black screen of upgrade". Why is it doing this?

From my past threads, recall that I've been going through way too many problems and hassles since the July "free" "upgrade" from Win 7 to 10. It's cost me a lot of hours and stress.

I'm running a 6 year old Asus Essentio. Since the major problems in my "WTF just happened?" thread, every update since then has been leaving the PC in what I've come to call the "Black screen of upgrade" mode. I set the update to run at 3 AM so as not to interrupt my work on my part time home based business, which is essential to up paying the bills and making ends meet. My entire computing life since 1992 is also on this PC, but I use Carbonite and a cloned drive to attempt to protect that.

Anyway, the "Black screen of upgrade"... It updates in the middle of the night, and the result is only what I can describe as the same that I used to get when I allowed this PC to go into hibernate instead of sleep. I would come back to a black screen and the PC would be completely unresponsive, by keyboard, mouse or power button. It happened again just now, after the update at 3 AM today.

The only way to get it going again is to shut off the UPS power and fire that up again, then hit the PC power button to turn it back on. So today, it comes on again and immediately goes into the "please wait - finishing the update" screen mode, after the initial BIOS boot. So I went off to do other things for several minutes.

Come back, and now I have a "Blue screen of upgrade". This time a blue screen and completely unresponsive, by keyboard, mouse or power button. So I had to shut down the UPS again and bring it all back on, and finally got a complete boot.

Is Microsoft aware that this is going on? Are they going to fix it?

It's one of the most stressful things that a part time home business owner can see every time they update this OS, and I have no idea what to do.

I've been so busy that I haven't had time to decide whether to go ahead with my previously mentioned idea of just having to buy a newer refurbed PC with Win 8.1 for $500, and then have to go through the tedious and time consuming procedures of transferring all my stuff from this, to the newer one, then getting this one back to Win 7 with the original disks that came with the refurb. At least THEN, I could have redundancy and have two parallel running PC's with all my stuff. ( maybe I could then clone the 8.1 HD and run the clone in the older PC )

But is there any way to save this from having to do all that?

    :)

"Black screen of upgrade". Why is it doing this?

Just got disconnected from the wifi all of a sudden. Nothing worked. Had to restart, but it took about 5 minutes, saying it was restarting, with the spinning wheel, and only then restarted. How do I find out the cause of this? Are there logs?

Jennifer's PC wouldn't even work on the wifi USB adapter after Win 10 upgrade in July, because apparently the adapter had no new driver for Windows 10 available. I had to scour the net for one that would work for it, for the chip set, and then every time it updated, it wouldn't work again. Finally bought her that refurbed PC with 8.1. ( also has built in wifi )

Not sure why it just did this on mine, after an update yesterday.
