Windows 10: Black screen on Start-up

This may be a long one...

Past few months i've been having many problems with my PC Specialists laptop.

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz

RAM 16GB (15.9 usable)

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070

Started off with Blue screen whenever launching a game with the stop code VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE nvlddmkm.sys (You'd have to shut it down by holding the power button as it would never complete) once doing that once you could launch games fine, it would just happen again the next day. So I just decided to ignore it and put up with annoyingly restarting it and as time went on i'm having to go through the process a few times before the game would actually launch.


Now however whenever I first power on my laptop you can hear it power up but the screen remains black. Have to shut it down and restart it a few times before I can even log in, then when I log in it will freeze and I will have to power off/on THEN it finally works and I have to go through the whole blue screen problem. I've updated my drivers / uninstalled / reinstalled and that hasn't helped, I haven't yet done a fresh restart as I want to try and avoid that IF possible.


Been looking around my laptop and trying to trouble shoot, the only thing i've found that may be of any help is on problem history in control panel it has 4 critical events listed, one of which is just "Windows failed to start and we are unable to determine the cause of the problem" and 3 of "CMStatus stopped working" C:\Program Files (x86)\Hotkey\CMStatus.exe and a few cases of Hardware error "LiveKernelEvent code 141 Locale ID 2057"


I'm not very tech savvy so I know i've probably left a lot of details out in this I wonder if anyone knows of what CMStatus even is/if they know what may be the cause of any of this before I take/pay for it to be fixed - if it can be!

Endless black screen without anything but it is on

Sounds like the old... windows black screen of death.
