Windows 10: Block Forced Update to version 2004?

Hello All,

I'm on Windows 10 Pro version 1903, 64-bit.

Windows Update used to show the update to 2004 as an optional update. I've never selected this update.

A couple of weeks ago, I suddenly got a notification to restart my computer to complete the update. Would you know, Windows just up and downloaded version 2004 without any action/permission from myself.

I restarted the computer and when it was done, I was presented with a privacy settings screen. I checked the settings, then continued to log in.

For a few days, things worked. Then out of the blue, Windows Security stopped working. I got a notice to turn on anti-virus protection. When I checked, Virus & threat protection were off, and could not be restarted.

At that point, I decided to roll back to version 1903. However, ever since then, version 2004 is slotted to be downloaded with all other updates; meaning that in order to block 2004, I have to block ALL updates, which I do not want to do.

Is there any way for me to block only the version 2004 update, without being forced to block all updates?

I was able to force install it in early June, and I tested it for a couple days before rolling back to 1909.

Microsoft apparently has now decided to block force installs.

IMO, no.

Additionally, there has also been a change in how Microsoft handles attempted forced installs of the ISO on a system that has a block.

I was able to force install it in early June, and I tested it for a couple days before rolling back to 1909.

It will now stop the install, tell you your PC is not ready, and gracefully exit the installer.

So that's a "tell".
