Windows 10: Blocked Sites

Hard to believe that #Microsoft is running a scam but if your computer downloads a specific “infected” site a warning comes up on your computer telling you that your blocked by Microsoft and to call a Microsoft 1800 number to “unblock” your computer. When you call the number, you get a Microsoft represent who gets you to allow them to access your computer so that they can fix the problem (the person speaks with a heavy Indian accent) . Once they are in your computer they start looking for other problems and tell you that they will need 40 to 50 minutes to fix your computer and then present you with a charge ( in the past a friend of mine told me he was charged close to 100 dollars.) Fortunately, I realized it was a scam and told Microsoft that I was not prepared to allow them to work on my computer. I then spent 15 minutes and was able to fix the problem myself.

Check hosts file (C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc). The blocked sites should be listed there.

 

Blocking sites with Hosts File


Hello,

I am trying to block all porn sites on the laptop that I let kids play on. I tried using the hosts file to block them, I found a huge list of porn sites to block. But when I tried to load other sites like Facebook, YouTube, etc. It will take forever to load as I believe it is checking the whole list of sites.

Now what am wondering is there anyway of doing it and not have any difference with the speed of any other website? Because youtube should just come up with no issues. But with all those sites in the host file it takes forever.
