Windows 10: Blue Screen of Death and Need to Back up files before doing a system recovery

Friday October 20 I shut down my computer and it said that updates needed to be installed and would shut down after that. Now I have nothing but the Blue Screen of Death. After 2 and a half hours on the phone with HP I was told a system restart thumb drive was needed and paid almost $45 for it. However when the thumb drive arrived it said that all data would be deleted. Some data is in a cloud but not all. A you tube video got me to a x:\Windows\system32> The rest of the video was for notepad and I don't use that. What else can I do? Not happy about spending big $$ at the computer repair

If you see the blue screen only after sign-in
and you can see a mouse cursor:

• While at the black screen, try using CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to start Task Manager.
  
• If it becomes visible, try finding LockAppHost.exe on the Details tab and ending the task.
  
• If this resolves the blue screen, use corruption resolution steps (dism, then sfc), and run the all apps PowerShell command.

To uninstall a driver refer the steps below.

  Press Windows Logo Key+X. Click On
  Device Manager.

  Then find the driver that you are trying to uninstall and right-click on it to
  Uninstall.

  Follow onscreen instructions to uninstall it.
