Windows 10: Blue Screen Video_TDR_Failure Error Message

Hello everybody,

I have encountered a "Blue Screen Of Death" error message with Stop code Video_TDR_Failure. The specific program that caused it is nviddmkm.sys

So from what I understand this is software related to my Nvidia video adapter that I bought my laptop with, which I find very baffling. This is the first time I've gotten a blue screen on this rig and after a hard reset it powered up and everything seems to be OK now. I got the error when the machine was idle, I only had Chrome open and it was displaying my Outlook mailbox, no video was supposed to be playing whatsoever.

A little context: This is a brand new computer that I bought 4 months ago. I am very careful with it and it has almost no additional software installed. It came without junkwarehigh-fives for everyone and I have only installed Avast, Adobe, Libre Office and iTunes on it. So it is still a very clean machine and has about 80% of its SSD free.

I read other BSOD-related threads and let me get ahead of you, I really don't think it is a software-from-a-questionable-developer-issue because I simply don't have such software installed on my rig, the above list is exhaustive. Also, what failed was nviddmkm.sys so the issue seems to be with Nvidia's official software.
I also have not installed any additional hardware, or made any alterations to the PC whatsoever.

I am currently running Windows 10 1909.

I would just like to know what exactly was the reason for the BSOD, what can I do to prevent it in the future and are there some underlying problems with my machine or the software on it? My old computer is a hot messalthough still functioning, so I paid top dollar for this one and am doing everything by the book in order to ensure that I don't end up with the same flaming dumpster on my hands, so any insights on what caused this error would be greatly appreciated!

Blue screen error VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (atikmpag.sys)

Everytime l turn on my sony laptop which has windows 10 installed l get an error message saying "your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart" and gives me the error which is VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE. Once it finishs collecting error information it restarts
and ends up giving me the same blue error message screen and continues to restart itselfs over and over again. Therefore l am unable to access any settings on the device and the only solutions l can find online require me to be able to boot up the laptop
and access the settings through the desktop. Is there anyway to fix this error thanks

The Video_TDR_Failure error may have been caused by an incompatible display driver. Since you mentioned that you already updated the graphics card driver, we suggest performing the steps provided on this
