Windows 10: Blue spinning pin wheel, program not responding?

The chkdsk /x /f /r was incomplete as it stopped with an error code.
The chkdsk scan needs to be repeated to see the outcome.
If the files were backed up you could format the drive and then run the chkdsk.

 

I'm just running a backup on D: and will then re run chkdsk *Wink

 

So at this point are we any closer to having a better idea of the cause of the spinning circle? I'm guessing since Driver Verifier is the last step that we're suspecting a driver?

 

We are not working on the spinning circle and are troubleshooting the findings in the logs.
The blue spinning circle will be troubleshooted by others in General forum.

 

You've lost me. I thought that this troubleshooting was all for the purpose of the spinning wheel. What will we be looking for with Driver Verifier? What is that troubleshooting? Are you saying that I will need to start a whole new troubleshooting thread related to the spinning and that everything we've done here was never intended for that? Sorry but it seems we aren't on the same page right now.

 

See posts #13, #21, etc. In the logs there were findings that needed to be addressed first by fixing the BSOD. With BSOD it is difficult to perform steps without unexpected crashes. One of the bugchecks was WHEA 0x124 which is often related to malfunctioning hardware. In order to work up the WHEA 0x124 many steps are performed to rule in / rule out problems. In addition an in place upgrade repair was performed. These are all steps that can help the people that will work up the rotating blue circle.

 

I think I'm following. So next step is to try and recreate the BSOD with Driver Verifier correct?

There was no error this time and chkdsk /x /f /r was able to complete the fix and restore:
Adding 12 bad clusters to the Bad Clusters File.
Correcting errors in the Volume Bitmap.
Windows has made corrections to the file system.

 

Just finishing up HD Tune on E:, then tonight I will uninstall AI Suite (this can be stubborn to remove I've heard) but I have the AI removal tool also. Then tomorrow we can start Driver Verifier. *Smile

 

Also make a new restore point before turning on Windows driver verifier.
For any BSOD please run Whocrashed so that you can see if there is a misbehaving driver to update.
Run the beta log collector after each BSOD and post a new zip into the thread for troubleshooting.
