    Bluetooth is missing

Since previous discussions about this topic have been locked, I will start a new thread about this topic. I'll describe my situation and then provide a solution that worked for me.

    My environment:

OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Home

    Version: 10.0.17134 Build 17134

    Dell: XPS 15

The problem began this morning with my Bluetooth mouse no longer working. When the problem began, Windows 10 still recognized that Bluetooth was available on my laptop. I did the usual trick of turning Bluetooth off and then turning it back on, and then trying to get my Bluetooth mouse to reconnect. It would reconnect for a moment and the mouse would function for about 3 seconds and then it would drop the connection. I tried that procedure about 10 time, with the same result. I then, did a restart on my computer. When my laptop restarted, the system no longer recognized Bluetooth. There was no place where I could turn Bluetooth on or off, and the Device Manager no longer contained any Bluetooth devices. That's what I mean when I say Bluetooth was missing. I restarted my computer several times, but Bluetooth still remained missing.

Here's what I did that solved my problem: Instead of restarting windows, I did a complete shutdown of Windows (i.e. I completely turned off my laptop). I then turned my laptop back on, and low and behold Bluetooth was once again available on my laptop and my Bluetooth mouse was once again working properly.

    ----------

Based on these results, one can conclude that a computer restart is not necessarily equivalent to shutting the computer off and tuning it back on. That's something that isn't so obvious, and its a simple detail that one can easily overlook. In most cases, restarting your computer clears up most stability issues; but based on my observation, not all.

    ----------

Although this solution may not work for all cases when Bluetooth goes missing, it's a very simple thing to try first before going on to more elaborate solutions such a removing and reinstalling drivers.

    :)

    Hi Peter,

The issue is quite unclear and incomplete for us to determine. We’d like to request for a clarification from your concerns for us to understand you better. To help us provide you an accurate answer, we'd like to ask you some questions:

    • Is the Bluetooth icon missing in the Action Center?
    • Is your Bluetooth device currently inserted?
    • Can we have a screenshot of the interface where your Bluetooth went missing?
    • Which version or build of Windows device are you using? To know, press
      Windows + R
to open the Run window. Type winver

    Bluetooth in windows 10

My computer specs are as listed in the profile. I think all of you guys are correct. I don't have built-in Bluetooth in mobo.

I contacted skull candy headphones and thy have told me if I do not have built-in Bluetooth, I would need a dongle which supports at least a2dp. I do not know what the heck that means. I have a feeling I would need more than a cheap dongle.

Anyone suggest some a2dp adapters. I searched but don't know what a2dp is so couldn't make a decision
