Windows 10: Bluetooth speaker problems

I have an Altech Lansing Mini H20 bluetooth speaker that I use with my Windows 10 x64 Toshiba Satellite laptop. Since updating within the last month, I've been having issues with playing audio through my bluetooth speaker. Windows is apparently not able to classify an external speaker as anything but a headset or headphones, despite it being incredibly common to have and use external speakers via bluetooth that are neither headphones or a headset. Because of the limited options, it is impossible to get a handle on the volume of my bluetooth speaker. It;s either too low volume or too low quality sound to hear it properly. I am only a couple of feet away from this laptop and the speaker when I'm using them, so it is not an issue to expecting too much volume, just to be able to hear it and adjust it in reasonable increments. There are not drivers for Altech speakers from Windows or Altech. And yesterday, a new problem has started where when I connect my speaker the volume is automatically turned off, on mute. Before this, the volume was automatically set to 100, full blast. Why in the world is Windows 10 not able to put a bluetooth audio device as anything other than a headset or headphones? That seems completely unreasonable, as does the automatic mute or full-blast volume after connecting. There are so so many people asking about these problems, I dont understand why tf there hasn't been any attempt to address them. Not that I expect my "question" here to make any difference either, but I can't not post this and also complain about it. None of your products are inexpensive. Please focus on the things your customers actually want you to fix instead of adding resource hogs like "connect your phone" and the constantly running store or cortana. I already tried editing the registry to disable/enable absolute volume. It did not make any positive difference. Argh.

Bluetooth speaker not playing

Your Bluetooth speaker might be paired with your PC but not connected. You can try the following steps to manually connect it:

• Make sure your Bluetooth speaker is turned on.
• On the far right of the Windows taskbar, press and hold (right-click)
  Volume, and then select Playback devices.
• On the Playback tab, select the Bluetooth speaker, press and hold (or right-click) it, and then select
  Connect.
• Select your Bluetooth speaker, and then select Set default. Music should play on your Bluetooth speaker now.

Let us know if performing the steps makes any difference.
