Windows 10: boot loop

1) How old is the computer?
2) Are all of the components original or were some replaced?
3) What is the history of the Windows drive?
4) Were you having any problems with chkdsk on boot, paging or controller errors, bad blocks etc.?
5) Were you overclocking?
6) When was the last time you reset the bios?
7) Which version of Windows are you using: 1709, 1703, 1607, 1511, etc?
8) Was there any history of malware?


9) Find 3 flash drives that you can format
10) See if you can boot to Memtest86+ version 5.01

11) See if you can boot to Ubuntu /Linux

a) if you can boot to Ubuntu run HD Sentinel and post images of the Overview, Smart, and surface scans into the thread.

12) Create a Kyhi bootable recovery flash drive and run HD Sentinel and post images into the thread.

13) Another alternative is to use a hard drive enclosure and move all of your files to another working computer. Then perform a clean install of Windows 10 version 1709.

1. You indicate the cause may have been this:

2. You may be able to boot to Safe Mode thus:
Boot e.g. from an installation disk to a command prompt:

bcdedit /set {default} safeboot minimal
then restart.

3. Otherwise Freebooter's idea of restoring your backup registry may work (post #8). If you can then boot, you would still have to remove any files and folders of that program manually.

4. What is your Windows build?
Windows key + R, winver

 

I ended up having to format and reinstall.
