Windows 10: Boot to Advanced Startup Options in Windows 10

I used a bad choice of words. I edited my post to be more accurate. The advanced options is missing in my Hyper-v VM of 15063. That may be by design.

 

I just finished installing a fresh W10 build 15063 VM in Hyper-V to test, and Restart now is still available in Recovery for me.

Something may have happened to your recovery partition.

 

I had the same thought, so I checked reagentc /info and it shows the recovery partition to be enabled. Also shift+restart from power menu does not do anything. I am investigating.

Well I am stumped. I have two Hyper-v VMs. One is a fresh install of 15063 and the other I created with Kari's tut Disk2vhd. Reagentc /info shows to be enabled on both VMs. Both VMs have bcd recovery environment entry. Both VMs have a recovery partition with the .sdi, .xml, and .wim files. Both VMs have advance startup missing in Recovery. I don't know what I did wrong or how to fix it.

 

Just to verify, did you scroll down in Recovery to see if it may just be below scroll view?

I checked that and do not have anything to scroll.

 

Does it show you having the "System Reserved" partition in Disk Management?

 

I have been detained about 1 hour.

 

I have in this order a Recovery 450MB, EFI System 100MB, System Reserved 16MB, Windows 10 69.32GB partitions in a GPT drive.

 

I must admit that I'm not sure why you don't have the option, but you should be able to boot from the ISO in the VM to access Advanced Startup like in Option 5.

 

Yes that is a good work around. I am still looking for the root problem. I will post back if I find any thing.

 

Once you get to advanced startup, which option is best? The problem I had arose when I went to msconfig and selective startup and checked alternate shell; I got to command prompt and could not get back to Windows. I did not want to go through the time consuming task of resetting, I only wanted to go back to a regular startup.

 

I have only used F4 safe mode in Advanced options. I have had no problems getting back to regular startup from there. How to fix what you have now will take someone with more experience than me. Sorry.

 

@Shawn, Eureka, I think. I finally stumbled across the root problem. The reality is there was no problem to begin with. Apparently, MS in their infinite wisdom decided that Advanced startup should not show in an Enhanced session. For whatever reason I decided to try to see Advanced startup in a Basic session and there it was and it works as expected. Go figure.
