    Bring back Windows Experience Index!

Go on then, post it here (I did) or make a "Show us your WEI" thread - I don't think there is one here yet.

I don't know - radio performance is pretty important to me... Less important than usually starting but more important than the color or top speed or whatever.

You can always put a jack under the radio and change everything around it.

First off, it was free, and a quick way to check performance. I didn't have to spend $80 on something to tell me the same basic info.

Someone earlier stated no one posted their stats in this thread. Duh, it is a Windows 10 / 8 forum, it doesn't exit. Personally I would love to compare my 8 stats machines to my Windows 7 stats machines. Would they report the same?????

My main usuage was graphics cards or CPUs
let us say an i5 xxxx vs. i5 xxxxx, yes they might be i5 but have different features
also in overclocking I would often do a test to see the differences
I also used the test to see if something was installed properly, if it failed WEI (which happened on occasion) I would re-install, I found if it didn't work in WEI, then I probably would have problems later.

I already said I would look at other peoples stats, and they would also list their builds, so it gave me insight as to what my new machine might use. This is my preference, if I use it, so what, why not make it available if people want to use it.

It was rumored at one time, the reason they removed it was because of the low performance of the Surface units. Which the RTs weren't that great.

If a person doesn't use it, they (or some) seem to think it is useless to everyone else, who made them the ultimate decision makers?

Let's not go to personal level of preferences, let's stick to facts. WEI gives very little information, it's too coarse and is not a measure of performance. There are many, much better benchmarks that will give you detailed performance numbers that mean something. It started as an internal utility to set graphic details during windows setup and than made available to the public. It didn't even detect difference in graphics potential when I switched from AMD HD 3850 Top to R7 260 which is like 5 times better in graphic benchmarks and games. Even business graphic score didn't go up with later card being at least 1.5 times higher frequency than older one (300 MHz to 450 or more depending on load).

WEI wasnt very optimized, if you was to compare 2 i5 at stock speed that are different models you would mostly get the same score and unless it was a massive OC the score wouldnt increase by more than one point at most when overclocking cpu.

Yes, we can all agree, it was not a deluxe tool.
    But;
It was free, it was universal, at the time every Windows 7 machine had it, and most people shopping for a system at their local store or else wise could easily compare scores to their current machines. First, thing I did when shopping my local Best Buy, would be to check the WEI. What is the harm in that? Early on, I had no clue whether to get an AMD or Intel machine. It simply served it's purpose.

I am not defending it against better software, only it's usage.

With Windows 7 when I added 4GB for a total of 8GB RAM I knew the score would improve, the same when I traded the HDD for a SSD. that's better hardware. But what did interest me was any improvements when I updated my Intel HD2000 integrated graphics driver, once it was 2 points better. The scores might not really mean any thing but they did show if something was improved quick and visually clean without too much other Gobeltygook.

The SIW (System Info for Windows) will tell you everything you need to know about your PC even all your license keys, temps, everything. Below, I got the lowest rating on my graphics probably because of driver issues with Win 10.

there are lots of free programs that are better than wei. and imo using the wei to do my shopping isn't a good idea. 2 cpu could have a 1 point difference while one might be 2x faster in real world performance.

I don't think WEI is taking shape of windows in to account either, you can have a dirty infected system, noticeably slower than it should be and still get good rating. There used to be, long time ago some program that bench-marked performance of Office programs by loading lets say a large and complicated spreadsheet and doing calculations. Similar for Word etc. Now that's a practical benchmark. Same goes for some games where computer plays it for you while displaying and recording frame rates. That's real life benchmark, more useful than general ones.

Have they reintroduced a free version of SIW?

I don't know about the free version. Mine is a paid version which I got on a promotion (50% off). But I know there are existing free version as portable apps. But those may be outdated ones.

LOL listening to some of these comments bad mouthing WEI, makes it sound like Microsoft can't write any good software at all, gee but here we are, on a Windows Ten forum. Again, it was free, it was universal, it wasn't great but decent, it serves it's intended purpose, I don't understand the hostility towards it. I liked it, I miss it, I wish it would return, my final thoughts and opinion, no more from me on this topic.
