Broadcom 802. 11abgn wireless sdio adapter

    hi,

My asus t200 transformer book has the Broadcom 802. 11abgn wireless sdio adapter.
Recently, my PC started having serious issues with connecting to public wifi.
Everytime I try, my PC says my wireless adapter is experiencing driver or hardware related issues, and the wireless function shuts down entirely.

Restarting, enabling and disabling and so forth doesn't solve the problem, only a full uninstall of the device and a clean install of most recent drivers fixes the issue, until next time I try connecting to a public wifi.

My Asus runs window 10 64bit.

    Any ideas?

    :)

My Windows 10 tablet is stuck at 64% installation level

Managed to install windows and get it going from a USB.

Now I can see a lot of errors on drivers and the major concern is the wireless adaptor - it apparently is using

Broadcom 802. 11abgn wireless sdio adapter - and comes up with the message that it is experiencing driver or hardware related issues. Now with no way to connect to the internet to find the suitable driver, I tried to repair it
with the files in the system with no luck. Any suggested solution to this problem?

I would try contacting the manufacturer to see if they can help me as well.

It has been a few days with this tablet and it is frustrating.

Use a utility such as Aida64 to see exactly which model is your WiFi adapter. Then download latest driver directly from Broadcom and see if they do work. Since the problem arises only in public networks, it could also be some security restriction. I don't have a WiFi card right now, so I cannot help you with any settings. Anybody else?

I'm confused - I've written exactly what model I have, haven't I? Or are you saying that there are different versions of this very model? I mean, I'm using an ASUS computer, so I guess I have an ASUS variant? But this is a pretty specific model number.

I'll try giving the program a shot, but I'm kind of confused that there is a more specific model number than what I've provided.

It only happens on public wifi connections.

I suspected it had something to do with my VPN client, that launches on startup, but it doesn't appear to be the case as it has kept happening even after I tried disabling my VPN client entirely.

It's never been a problem before, though as far as I can tell, the problems started after I installed windows 10, and specifically after I re-enabled hibernation. Alas, I don't think this is related either.

Broadcomm is a manufacturer of WiFi adapters, LAN adapters, Bluetooth and some others. 802.11abgn means that your adapter is compatible with the wireless protocols IEEE 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n This tells nothing about the actual model since Broadcomm and other manufacturers can have many models with these characteristics. Based on your notebook model, Asus Transformer Book T200TA, I found this support site. There you can download and install this Broadcomm WiFi driver.

    I hope that helps.

Thank you, now I much better understand what you're saying! This was very educational.

I've downloaded the driver you linked, and will use it the next time the problem arises, seeing as I have to uninstall the drivers every time anyway.

    Addendum:

I've now, for the first time, encountered the problem when connecting to a non-public network.
My work has a guest network, which causes the problem, but it also has an employee wifi connection, which is password protected, but this also caused the problem.

I suppose it's still technically a public connection, but it is password protected, so at least this is not what is causing the problem.

Well if you have the wrong driver, the card can see networks and even attempt to connect but doesn't succeed. Install the correct driver from the link I gave you. When first connecting to an unknown network, Windows will ask you to share your files (it is work or home, private) or not share your files (it is public). It doesn't know beforehand.

    Hi,

I've been using a driver I acquired from a website, claiming it was the most recent one, but it was developed by/for Toshiba.
The driver seems to work, restoring my ability to access, at least my own wifi, but doesn't fix the problem.

The driver you provided me with didn't fix the problem at all - it restored my ability to go online, for about 2 minutes, the the issue occurred even without me accessing one of the networks that usually causes the problem.

Attempting to use both drivers at the same time seems to work - for now at least as well as using the Toshiba driver alone.
The crazy idea to combine two drivers, I got from the webiste where I got the Toshiba driver - as it specifically said to try combining drivers if the newest one was for a different model, then to combine with the latest for my model, as they should be compatible like that.

    I hear that it's usually a no-no.

I have additional information that might help localize the problem: I recently enabled hibernation mode, which was disabled when windows 10 was installed on the PC. The PC originally came with windows 8, and did have hibernation mode.

naturally, since my windows 10 update, all my drivers have been updated several times - but I can't help but to think, that maybe my wifi adapter isn't compatible with hibernation mode, since switching to windows 10?

At least, there appears to be some connection between me going to hibernation mode and the card stopping to work.

If Windows Update thinks your driver is old, it will change it again and screw things again. To prevent that, right click on This PC and select Properties. Then click on the Advanced system settings, then go on the Hardware tab. Click on Device installation settings and then select No, let me choose what to do and Never install driver software from Windows Update. Click Save settings and OK and that's it.

Well, I discovered that this setting isn't enough to prevent Windows Update installing a new OEM driver. I have nVidia Forceware 335.23 for Windows 8.1 installed because versions 340.xx or later have the CUDA component changed, so older applications cannot detect and use CUDA (hardware acceleration in video editing). Windows Update keeps updating that to version 350.xx at first chance! I then found this thread of how to hide the NVidia updates. I hope I won't need to reinstall version 335.23 again! So use this trick to prevent faulty drivers reinstall automatically.
