Windows 10: Browser Hijacker

Recently found all google searches on my preferred browser ending up with yahoo search results on my Windows 10 desktop. Checked all software for latest updates, ran full Defender scan, but could not restore the Google search engine.


Finally stumbled across this piece of software: "Swift Tab" and have no idea how it got there. Icon had label: "operatetoolfind" and pointed to a URL: **tp operatetoolfind info/search etc ...


It seems this software was the source of the browser hijacking and removing it has restored the google search engine. Not sure yet but may have to uncover the software it hitchhiked onto if it reappears?

After reading what you went through I would strongly suggest you read the advice of Monkey57 and try his steps. Normally

Browser hijackers don't show this kind of behavior and more could be going on. Normally I don't suggest Resetting your computer but in this case....

• STEP 2: Scan and clean your computer with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

• (OPTIONAL) STEP 4: Reset your browser to default settings

 

browser hijacked

I've removed viruses using Avast & Malwarebytes but still get browser redirects when trying to go to any Microsoft sites or update page. Any suggestions?
