Windows 10: Browsers don't connect - except old Edge

I recently made a repair install on my hardly ever used 2nd machine.
Now I notice that I can only browse the Internet via Edge, no other browser connects - they keep trying forever.
Email program gets stuck.
Download speed can be measured via speedtest app.
I checked all network settings - no proxy selected, no change whether I use static or automatic DCHP enabled.
No change with any DNS server.
Sfc/scannow did not bring results, also flushdns.
Ping google.com works.

Some control panel functions like check Windows Update history don't seem to connect.

Anybody got a hint?

No Browser but Edge Will Connect


Our problem is eerily similar to the one posted by grandpa1948 Edge browser owns my laptop. I didn't want to piggyback onto his thread, and from reading his thread, he didn't seem to achieve any resolution.

This is a Toshiba Satellite L755-S5153. It has Firefox, IE11 and MS Edge. The only browser that connects to the Internet is Edge. What is different about Edge? Is it actually a browser in the IE, Chrome, Opera and Firefox sense of the word?

I have run every test and process I can think of

• SFC /scannow
• Adwcleaner
• Malwarebytes
• Windows Defender
• netsh winsock reset
• netsh int ip reset
• chkdsk /r /f

Nothing has made a difference. Netsh int ip reset gives me an error. Trying to install Chrome gives me errors. (I have turned off the Windows Firewall).





Before I discovered that Edge worked we actually went out and bought a new laptop. We'd done a terrible job of bookmarking and I wanted to take my internet history and copy it to the new laptop - Need to copy IE11 History to new PC - Access Denied. If you open the link you'll see that the topic has received next to nothing in response

I would suggest you to try restarting Microsoft Edge Browser and check if it helps.

Follow the below steps:

  Open task manager right click on Microsoft Edge and go to details click on microsoftedgeCP.exe and click end task

Site links not working in Chrome or Edge

Have you tried resetting your browser? If not, we suggest you to do so. To reset Edge, follow these steps:

• 
  Go to
  Browser Settings.
  
• 
  Clear
  Browser Data.
  
• 
  Close the browser and launch it again.
  

If the issue persist, follow these other steps:

• 
  Go to
  Task Manager.
  
• 
  Click on
  MicrosoftedgeCP.exe
  
• 
  End the task.
