1. BSOD after clean install Windows 10 Anniversary

    Hi,

After updating to Windows 10 Anniversary, my PC got this issue: every programs including Start Menu, Taskbar, Windows Explorer, etc freeze after I log in. I couldn't even log off, turn on task manager using Ctrl+Alt+Del or Ctrl+Shift+ESC. I searched and tried many methods but non has worked unless I roll back to previous build. Then I decided to format the drive and try a clean install to fix the issue.

The clean installation ran smoothly, however after that it always shows the BSOD error with ks.sys message whenever I log in. I haven't install any software or driver yet, except the Nvidia display driver I installed in safe mode.

Felling hopeless now. Please help guys.

    :)

BSOD after clean install Windows 10 Anniversary

    Hello azkaban3000 *Smile

It looks to me like you have overclocked your system or something is not right with the settings:

    Code: CPUID: "Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz" MaxSpeed: 2670 CurrentSpeed: 3200
Please remove all overclocking settings in the BIOS, load optimised defaults and retest. Overclocking a system will frequently result in BSOD errors.

  5. Please remove all overclocking settings in the BIOS, load optimised defaults and retest. Overclocking a system will frequently result in BSOD errors.
Hi philc43,

Thanks for you reply. Yes I have overclocked my PC and been using that setting for 5 years, it worked perfectly with Windows 7 and previous Windows 10 build. I already tried the optimized default setting but the ks.sys BSOD still appear so I'm sure that overclocking is not the reason in this case.

For more information, I still keep my old Windows 10 build 1511 on other hard drive and it still works perfectly. Therefore the BOSD issue only show up with Win 10 anniversary build.

Does it also do this in safe mode? There must be a driver updated for the W10 AU that is triggering a problem in your system. If safe mode is OK, you should then try a clean boot (disable all start-up items and any non-Microsoft services) and if still OK gradually add items back in until you find the one that causes the problem.

  7. No the problem only occurs in normal boot, safe mode still fine. I tried clean boot but it stucks in a loading screen with orange background prior to the normal login screen.

I've been back to my old Windows on the old hard drive for a few times and switched back to the new one, suddenly all works perfectly. How strange....
