Windows 10: BSOD Driver Power State Failure

Hey guys,

Ever since I updated to windows 10, my computer automatically installs some Nvidia drivers from their servers. From past experience I know that my computer can get random BSOD's with the wrong Nvidia drivers installed (WinDBG always pointed towards nvdllmkm.sys). So previously when their was an Nvidia update that would cause crashes, I could install a previous version that I knew was working, however if I do this know I'm forced to go to Nvidia builds before the windows 10 update and afterwards windows update just reinstalls the windows 10 version it thinks I need.

So instead of trying to install previous Nvidia versions, I want to go into the root of the problem and find out why I'm getting these random BSOD's (BTW mostly happens when I'm watching a show, so could be temperature related?). Furthermore, I would prefer to stay on windows 10 *Smile

I updated both of the offending drivers and so far I have had 2 days BSOD free. The original problem was not consistently repeatable, so I cannot say with certainty that the "problem is solved," but early indications are positive.

Welcome to the 10forums.

I see you have KMSpico, is it used for Windows?

 

I believe I had to use it for my office installation.

 

Please uninstall office and remove KMSpico.
Counterfeit installations contain heavily modified code that causes the installation to behave in unexpected ways.

 

Check my sig for how to disable driver updates through windows updates.

If you still get a bluescreen caused by nvlddmkm.sys driver after disabling driver updates, disable the Nvidia Streamer Service in services (search: services.msc)

 

The problem still persists. Just to be sure I re-runned the log collector.

 

The cause is the Nvidia Video driver again.
You do have the newest driver I guess?
If so, try an older version and see if it helps.

I unistalled my Nvidia drivers using guru3d's software, and am currently installing the driver version 341.44 (last driver I know worked). Unfortunately I don't know any windows 10 Nvidia driver that doesn't cause issues for me. BTW the OEM Nvidia drivers are even older than the 341.44 version.

 

WIth laptops I usually suggest to only install OEM drivers, but the last time I suggested that, the OP couldn't boot windows normally after installing the drivers.

Before you switched to Nvidia drivers, were you capable of using the OEM drivers without problems?

 

The OEM drivers never had any problems, but I was experimenting how far I could update without problems. I started getting problems at the GTA V specific driver update. If the current driver still gives issues for me, I will wipe the drivers and install the OEM (even though its also for windows 8.1) driver.

 

Be sure to have rescue media, restore point and a full backup of your system in case it goes wrong when reverting back to OEM drivers.

 

An update: The OEM driver works fine. However, applications depending on DirectX dont function anymore (most of my games). Meaning I'm currently back on the windows 10 driver from Nvidia.
