Could you give some description about what happens and what you're doing when they happen everytime? That may help to identify the cause, it has in a lot of situations.

Yesterday they all happened while I was watching a video on YouTube (using Chrome if that matters).

They all pretty much happen the same way, the last half a second or so of whatever audio was playing in the background ends up being repeated for a few seconds really fast, then I get a black screen and the system resets.

The system freeze happens in exactly the same way except I don't get a black screen and have to manually restart the machine.

How many programs are open at the time of the crash?

Could you make screenshots/photos of the taskmanager tab 'Processes' filtered on 3 processes, CPU, Memory & Disk, just a few seconds before a crash happens? If you can please post it.

Most of the time it's just Steam and Chrome plus Nvidia GeForce Experience running in the background. I'm not sure how I could take a screenshot of that tab just before a crash happens since they're impossible to predict *Biggrin

Keep taskmanager running when you startup, this might make it easier to catch *Smile

Try to run 2 programs at the same time as max for now, a program of choice and taskmanager.

No crash yet, but this struck me as a little odd. There doesn't seem to be a good reason for Windows Defender to chew up that much disk usage.

0.5MB/s isn't something I would worry about (but that's me), any scans or something active?

What is it that takes so much from the disk?

That's just it though, Windows Defender was using the most out of everything on the list of processes, I'm not sure why 0.5MB/s equals 93% disk usage. I wasn't running any scans so I presume it was doing an automatic one but even then it's weird that it would go up to 93% (the highest was 97%)

    System File Check
    Please try following:
    • Open an admin command prompt
    • Copy/paste "sfc/scannow" (without quotes) and press enter
    • When it finished reboot your system
    • Open again an admin command prompt
    • Enter sfc/scannow again
If sfc/scannow says "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them" after the second SFC, please upload the cbs.log file located at %systemroot%\Logs\CBS\, if the file is too large try a 3rd party uploader like dropbox, onedrive, google drive, mediafire etc.
System File Check(SFC a.k.a. Windows Resource Protection) needs to have your system rebooted in order for sfc to try to fix the problems that it finds.

    SFC found nothing both times.

I'll give this a bash later though I'm slightly sceptical. If the clean upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10 didn't fix this then I'm not sure that this will. Still, it's an option.

The saga continues. It got about 3% through the installation before it decided to recover the previous version of windows. Funnily enough I had the exact same issue when upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10, I couldn't fix it until I did a clean install of Windows 7 and THEN installed Windows 10.

Do you have multiple languages installed?

Although you probably have enough space on your hard drive, please try to cleanup your hard drive space by running cleanmgr.
Ensure that you also cleanup the system files.

I have ENG (US) and ENG (UK) installed. Also yeah I have plenty of free space on my hard drive.
