  1. BSOD: Kernel security check failure

Hi all. I'm a casual musician and I use an audio interface Focusrite Scarlett Solo, 2nd gen and DAW Cakewalk by BandLab to record music on my laptop Dell XPS 15. I recently switched the driver mode in my DAW to ASIO, which is recommended by Focusrite for lowest latency. Ever since the switch, my external microphone that connects to my interface won't send any signal into Cakewalk. It does send signal into other programs like Audacity and Voice Recorder, but these don't work for my music purposes. I've already talked to Focusrite and Cakewalk support, and they don't know how to fix it. It's been over a month now, with reinstalls of Cakewalk and the interface drivers having no effect. I also can't get it to work if I switch back to WASAPI shared, which I was using before.

The kicker is that when I try to look at or change settings in Windows Sound Panel e.g. to match the recommended sample rate setting of 44.1kHz, I get a BSOD: Kernel Security Check Failure. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE INTERFACE IS PLUGGED IN. I can access the settings under the playback tab, but as soon as I click the recording tab in Windows Sound Panel, the computer crashes without fail. Once the BSOD reaches 100% when it's supposed to automatically restart, it won't restart. I've let it sit for several hours there before with no change. Now, I usually just hard power off the laptop and reboot. It runs fine after this, until it crashes again. It only crashes when I do that specific thing, click the recording tab with my interface plugged in. I've also run the system file checker, the driver verifier, and the check disk tool. None have found anything wrong, although I ran them last a few weeks ago. This problem has been happening for almost 2 months at this point. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the latest Focusrite drivers, and Focusrite support has told me that this is not a widespread issue.

I know basically nothing about how to fix computers in general, let alone this issue. It seems to me like the problem lies somewhere in the exchange between the interface and Cakewalk, but also somehow affects the rest of my computer enough to cause these crashes. I'm sure I've left out a lot of information here, so if you want more info about my system, programs, settings, or whatever, let me know and I'd be happy to share. I'm super hoping that one of you out there will have some ideas of what to do.

    Thank you!

    :)

  3. BSOD - Kernel Security Check Failure

    Hi Ashton,

There's a lot of reason for booting in to a BSOD, like problems with the driver for your display adapter or the
video output is being sent to an unexpected port. KERNEL SECURITY CHECK FAILURE error is usually caused by Memory or Driver incompatibility issues or corruption of system data.
In order for us to efficiently assist you, we just have few questions for you:

    • Were there any changes made to your computer prior to the issue?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

    Regards.

  4. BSOD: Kernel security check failure

    Kernel Security Check Failure BSOD

Have a computer that used to run Windows 7 absolutely fine, then upgrade to Windows 10 and changed my hardware that should meet the requirements. Then started to regularly get the Kernel Security Check Failure BSOD. I have updated drivers and verified
them and done all that I can think and read about online which makes it okay for about a week and then I start getting them again. Not sure what my next step should be, any assistance appreciated.
