    BSOD on shutdown IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 0x0000000a

I've searched everywhere for a solution to this problem and tried many suggestions but nothing has worked. Please don't suggest that I just install Linux; I may end up there but for now am interested in fixing what's wrong.

Background: I made the big mistake of buying one of those 32GB eMMC laptops running Windows 10. I figured that since I mostly ran remote control to my main desktop, I wouldn't need much space. Wrong: Windows keeps gobbling up space to do its constant upgrades, and now there is none. One of the solutions to this that I found was to turn off hibernation which would then delete my hibernation file. I did this and got back 8GB, but then the BSOD problem began.

The other thing that happened around this time was that the SD card that I'm using for stuff like documents and photos (and my desktop) somehow got assigned to E: instead of D: and all the stuff on it went away as far as Windows was concerned. I used Disk Management to reassign the drive letter back to D: and that solved that problem.

At first it would reboot after showing the BSOD screen. There was no way to shut down the computer. I changed the BSOD-restart setting to "off" and now it just hangs with the BSOD screen at 100%. The power-off button shuts it off immediately.

I've done dozens of the standard troubleshooting steps, but nothing has helped. SFC found and fixed something but that wasn't it. I can't run a memory test because that seems to get done late in the shutdown process and I never make it there; I don't think it is memory anyhow. The new "improved" Windows Update is fixated on installing the latest big update and there isn't room; in the old days there were optional driver updates that you could install but I don't think those are available any more. I ran AVG's driver updater and it said that the sound driver and USB storage driver are out of date; it costs $36 to actually get anything updated by it, I don't know another way, and I don't think that is the problem anyhow. The system log shows the BSOD happening but doesn't say what was wrong.

I think this has to do with hibernate being turned off. (I can't turn it back on because Windows Update has gobbled up the space I need to enable it.) My guess is that somehow hibernate didn't get properly shut off and it is dying because the hibernate file is not there. I don't know how to test this or to examine the registry entries controlling hibernation to see if they are correct.

The crash results in a minidump file being created; examining it with WinDBD doesn't tell me anything. There is no MEMORY.DMP file created because there supposedly isn't enough disk space.

I'm at my wit's end. Can someone suggest additional troubleshooting steps? I'm a programmer and an IT tech so I know my way around Windows pretty well, but this has me stumped.

    Thanks!

    Random BSOD IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0x0000000a)

I keep getting a BSOD reading IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL along with instances where my computer just locks up completely. It happens at random and I haven't been able to figure out what's causing it. If my computer doesn't lock up on startup or crashes during use it runs fine without problems. Event Logs list the bugcheck code as 0x0000000a (0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000, 0xfffff8015f2f42b0). I've attached the zip as instructed.

  4. BSOD on shutdown IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 0x0000000a

    Irql_not_less_or_equal

So I have this clients PC that blue screens and gives a IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL STOP 0x0000000A error message. Error Goblin (link in sig) says the following:

And I have NO IDEA what the hell that means. It has wrapped around my head 5 times and caused it to explode. Ive ran memtest for 7 and a half hours and it didnt find any errors. I will probably run it again overnight just to be safe. Ive also cleaned out the computer with an air compressor and checked the hard drive for bad sectors are none are to be found.

Im trying like hell to avoid reinstalling Windows but it seems unlikely.

Im going to try updating some drivers and see what happens. Some of the drivers on this computer date back to 2007.

    Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks guys.

    EDIT:

Alright so it doesnt look like ill be able to get onto the internet to do anything because nearly every time i try, i get the BSOD. Format seems imminent.
