  1. BSOD playing Battlefield 1 or using Keyshot

    Hello,

So I've had Windows 10 since last fall, upgrade from Win 7 and it ran without issues until I replaced my video card with a EVGA GTX 960 and a new PSU. This week however the frequency has increased, and I've been gettied varried BSOD messages. I've been using BlueScreenViewer to read the dumps but it doesn't seem to be very detailed, it's often related to the ntoskrnl.exe but I know that other drivers can be at fault.

I updated the nvidia drivers earlier this week and again tonight since a new one was released but the BSOD's persists almost every 15 mins with Battlefield 1 or Keyshot, although a bit less frequent than BF1 (rendering software) Using 3Ds Max seem fine.

Last week I also updated the drivers for my wireless PCE card (Asus PCE-AC68) as they caused some issues. But the card is recent, and the BSOD were happening before that.

All drivers are up to date.
Ran Spybot Malware scanner and it's clean
Ran SFC scannow 2 months ago, a DLL was corrupt which was fixed with SFCfix. Ran it again today and no corruption was found this time.

I'm running out of ideas, last resort would be to perform a clean install of Win 10 so I'm posting my issue here before doing so in hope for fix.

    Thanks

    :)

BSOD playing Battlefield 1 or using Keyshot

I looked a the last 5 dumps, not much info in them to help diagnose the problem.

I then looked at driver dates and see one for a Lycosa Keyboard: 2008/01/18 03:51:42 AM C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\Lycosa.sys.
If your still using this keyboard see if there is an updated driver for it, otherwise just remove the driver and see what that does.

    Also GEARAspiWDM.sys: 2012/05/03 03:56:17 PM C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\GEARAspiWDM.sys
Remove, delete, uninstall or see if an updated driver is available.

These may both be nothing. This is the kind of thing you find when updating from an older OS to Win 10.

    Information
BSOD playing Battlefield 1 or using Keyshot [IMG]

MemTest86+ is a diagnostic tool designed to test Random Access Memory (RAM) for faults. MemTest86+ will verify that:

    • RAM will accept and keep random patterns of data sent to it
    • There are no errors when different parts of memory try to interact
    • There are no conflicts between memory addresses

Memtest86+ runs from bootable media to isolate the RAM from the system, no other components are taken into account during the test.

BSOD playing Battlefield 1 or using Keyshot [IMG]
Warning MemTest86+ needs to run for at least 8 passes to be anywhere near conclusive, anything less will not give a complete analysis of the RAM.

If you are asked to run MemTest86+ by a Ten Forums member make sure you run the full 8 passes for conclusive results. If you run less than 8 passes you will be asked to run it again.

Note MemTest86+ has been known to discover errors in RAM in later passes than the eighth pass. This is for information only; if you feel there is a definite problem with the RAM and 8 passes have shown no errors feel free to continue for longer.

Running 8 passes of MemTest86+ is a long and drawn out exercise and the more RAM you have the longer it will take. It's recommended to run MemTest86+ just before you go to bed and leave it overnight.

  5. Hi Ztruker

So Razer hasn't updated the drivers for the Lycosa keyboard which I'm still using so I uninstalled the driver as you suggested.

I also uninstalled iTunes as I'm not using that anymore.

Also I reverted the nvidia drivers to the version from last week as the 2 released this week seem to be causing issues as per gaming forums.

I'll see how things go from there, if the BSOD's continue I'll try a MemTest and post the dumps here if the RAM isn't checking in errors.

    Thanks for the help *Wink

The recent Nvidia drivers are definitely buggy, I've seen several reports of problems.

  7. Hi,

So after a good run, reverting the nvidia drivers helped a lot, I finally got another BSOD. So I ran MemTest86 this time and during the 1st pass it found an error near the beginning, looks like we found the culprit of all these crashes.
Since I got 2x 4GB dimms so I ran the test again by isolating each DIMM and finaly one of them gives errors right away. The 2nd showed no errors but I didn't do the full 8 passes since at this point I'm just going to buy new RAM.

    Thanks for the guidance Ztruker!
