BSOD playing GTA V (related to ntkrnlmp.exe)

I looked online before posting here and I found many things that could be the issue. I will list everything I did, in attempt to fix this issue:

- Restoring the system to a point before Windows 10 update (KB3093266)
- Checking BIOS settings for anything unusual
- Cleaning the registry with CCleaner
- Scanning the system for viruses with AVAST (boot time scan as well)
- Performing a clean install of the Display Driver
- Running a memtest86 (I stopped at 46%, because I am almost 100% certain its not memory related)
- Ran chkdsk on the console with no apparent errors
- Looked in the memory dump file for the problem and found the following:
- (Update) I ran driver verifier test and it gave me different BSOD screens (i was in a loop for a bit)

"BugCheck 3B, {c0000005, fffff8017b0e8ca2, ffffd0002318cbe0, 0}

Page 12cfb3 not present in the dump file. Type ".hh dbgerr004" for details
Probably caused by : ntkrnlmp.exe ( nt!KxWaitForLockOwnerShipWithIrql+12 )"

I searched this and concluded it was my display driver, however after a clean install, the problem persists.

This started today when I started up GTA V. After about 5-10 minutes, the BSOD appeared. One thing that I thought was the problem was that I had installed MalwareBytes Free version about an hour or less before I started playing GTA V. I searched online and read that "running two anti virus softwares can cause this BSOD. (I had AVAST installed before MalwareBytes, and I still have AVAST installed currently).

As a result I uninstalled MalwareBytes, but the problem persists. Im not overclocking anything at all and I'd really want to avoid having to reinstall Windows. If there's any other information I can provide to help, let me know.

Here's the new memory dump file after the driver verifier test:
Attachment 40952

Also i must say, that when I installed MalwareBytes, It ran a scan after installation and found a list of things to fix (mostly PUPs). So i went ahead and clicked "fix all" and now i think i may have not carefully looked at what was on the list. Could it have deleted an important file, which is causing the BSOD?

Update: I was looking through the first memory dump i had from my system and found that Realtek was listed in it under "Process Name." So i went ahead and updated the driver for it just to make sure. And I also saw that "Turbo Core Mode" was actually enabled in the BIOS by default. So i went ahead and disabled it. So far I didnt have anymore BSODs, but its probably too soon to say that. I also attempted running GTA V and so far, everything is ok and I dont really see any problems. Although I'd still like to find out the problem for the previous BSOD, because I didnt have any problems until today. Thank you for taking the time to look at this, I know its not easy figuring out these problems, but im trying my best to give as much info as possible.

:)

2. Running GTA5-PC (STEAM DLC) with older Sony Vaio laptop

Hi Carl,

We understand that you really want to play GTA V. For you to play the game smoothly, we would suggest that you need to purchase a new laptop or PC that will meet the system requirements of GTA V.

BSOD playing GTA V (related to ntkrnlmp.exe)

Hi DavyJones,

Welcome to the 10forums.

Please move some files from the E partition to increase the free space to at least 10-15%.
Every partition needs at least 10-15% free space so Windows can do its thing in the background.

Warning Less free space could cause BSOD's

From the few crashes I have checked, the cause is Avast.
Please uninstall Avast using the uninstall instructions
Code: *** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for aswSnx.sys *** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for aswSnx.sys
FYI, Malwarebytes is an Anti-Malware program which can be run side by side with another Anti-Virus program.
Malwarebytes doesn't delete important files.

I don't think the space is a problem because I have about 70GB free on the drive that holds Windows. However, I will go ahead and uninstall Avast. Once I uninstall it, should I reinstall it or find a better Antivirus?

Stay for a while with Windows Defender, WD is the most stabilized of them.

Your Seagate Backup drive is the hard drive I meant.
But I am not sure if an external (assuming it is an external hard drive) could cause a crash too.
Code: Drive E: Description Local Fixed Disk Compressed No File System NTFS Size 931.51 GB (1,000,203,833,344 bytes) Free Space 57.49 GB (61,726,347,264 bytes) Volume Name Seagate Backup Plus Drive Volume Serial Number FEDB9672
Thank you for the fast response on my issue. As for the drive space, I backup some files right before I did the driver verifier. That's why it has only 50GB left. It can't be the cause because when the issue started I had about 120GB on that drive.
I just uninstalled avast and am now updating Windows Defender. Since the Cpu turbo mode might not be the problem I will go ahead and re enable it to auto (the default).

Please keep the CPU turbo mode disabled while troubleshooting.

Ok I'll keep turbo mode disabled. Right now I'm running a scan with Windows Defender just to make sure I don't have any suspicious files in my system.
Also should I update the system? I have a Windows update available (KB3093266). It's the one that I rolled backed when I did a system restore previously.

As it is a cumulative update, cumulative updates usually fix bugs from other updates, I would recommend it yes.

Alright, so after a few days with no BSOD occurrences, one manages to show up and it was really random. I was playing SOMA, which is not resource intense or anything of the sort. Maybe it could've been the game, because the timing was perfect. (As i reached in game for an object, the computer froze and then boom...a BSOD came up.) I generated a zip file with the logs and stuff and attached it below.
Attachment 41620

Extra info:
- I did not have CPU Turbo Mode enabled
- Avast is not installed on the computer anymore
- I wasn't running anything else in the background (that I know of)
- The sound gave out completely when it happened and made a loud buzz/hmm sound (headphones)

Can you use the mouse and keyboard without razer software?
Razer software and ASUS software are known for causing BSOD's, but I would think you cannot remove the ASUS software.

I'd really rather not disable it, because I do use the macro keys, and other functions of the keyboard, quite often. I've never had a problem with it before at all, so I'm not sure that it would be the cause of my recent BSODs. I used to have Windows 7 before and never once have I had any issues. Could Windows 10 be the problem? Maybe there's a lot of bugs or compatibility issues with softwares?

The Razer software is active at the time of the crash which is the reason why I asked it.
Code: CUSTOMER_CRASH_COUNT: 1 DEFAULT_BUCKET_ID: WIN8_DRIVER_FAULT BUGCHECK_STR: 0x3B PROCESS_NAME: RazerIngameEng CURRENT_IRQL: 0 ANALYSIS_VERSION: 6.3.9600.17336 (debuggers(dbg).150226-1500) amd64fre LAST_CONTROL_TRANSFER: from fffff802be8c9504 to fffff802be94bca2
It could certainly be that there are issues with this software as stated the Razer software is not very stable.
Are you using the most recent software? Outside of beta versions

Yes, I am currently on version 1.18 which it says is up to date. What can I do to fix this? Just uninstall it?
