  1. BSOD upon ENTERING sleep mode

    Hi,

I have an Acer Laptop that was upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (Please see system info below). I had some problems with (seemingly) random restarts before but that seemed to have resolved itself

But since yesterday, the Laptop gives me a BSOD whenever it tries to ENTER sleep mode. This happens when I am not using the computer and the power saving option (set to enter sleep mode after 20 min) kicks in. But I can also reproduce it by pressing the power button or closing the lid to enter sleep mode. Any of these actions will result in an instant BSOD

So this is not the known problem of coming out of sleep mode. This happens when the laptop tries to enter sleep mode.

It would be great if you could point me in the right direction, to fix this.

    • Click on Advanced on the power troubleshooter dialog box and click on
Run as administrator (Enter the credentials if required).
    • Click on Next and follow onscreen instruction complete the
      Power troubleshooter
      .

If the issue persists, kindly try to follow these steps to reset the power settings:

    • Press Windows key + X from your keyboard.
    • Choose Command Prompt (Admin)
      from the context menu.
    • In the command prompt, type powercfg –restoredefaultschemes and press
      Enter.
    • Exit command prompt.

Note: This would reset the power plan settings to default. Any customized power plans are would be removed. I suggest you to check whether you are getting the sleep option after resetting the power settings.

  4. BSOD upon ENTERING sleep mode

    sleep mode

    Hi disgruntledWC,

There could be other settings on your computer that triggers your computer to go on sleep even though the sleep settings is set to never. To ensure that the sleep and display settings are properly set, I suggest that you look into the Advanced Power Settings.
    Follow these steps:

    • Open Control Panel and click Power Options.
    • On your preferred plan, click Change plan settings.
    • Click advanced power settings.
    • Expand Sleep option, and make sure to set the following:
    Sleep after : Never

    Hibernate after : Never

    5. Click Apply, then OK.

Please check also the screen saver option.

    • Navigate to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen.
    • Click Screen saver settings.
    • Set your Screen saver to None.
    • Click Apply, then OK.

Once done, please observe if your computer still goes to sleep mode after a few minutes of inactivity.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Regards.
