So far, so good. The PC went to sleep properly and woke up in good shape this morning. No new messages in the event log. Unfortunately the repair install removed my essentials client so I am not sure if it will wake up for the backup and resume sleep. I have reinstalled the connector and will test it tonight.

It would have been nice to know exactly what was wrong but I am relieved that it appears to be working correctly. It felt a bit like doing brain surgery with a hammer!

If all appears good tomorrow I will mark this case solved. Thanks again for your help and patience.

The dumps aren't very useful, what happens is returning in a lot 0x51 crashes.
The 0x51 indicates a registry or configuration problem, so far I understand of what happened is that some registry values and keys were freed, I suspect that a duplicate action was occuring on the same key/value

Well, it did not make it through the night but I suspect there isn't really a problem. The computer went to sleep properly, woke up for the backup and then rebooted. The event logs do not show anything unusual and no crashes. The CBS log (attached) looks like it might have been updates forcing a reboot. Other computers in the house also rebooted but at a different time. I will try again tonight.

What exactly is the reason for uploading the CBS?

Just trying to be comprehensive in my response. I was not sure if there was a quick way to determine if it was a crash or a normal shutdown caused by the update process (or if you cared at this point).
