    BSOD with Update KB5003173

HI Guys Everytime i try to update with KB5003173 my main Pc hits a BSOD on bootup. I have tried waiting for a few weeks but it has done it again so MS not fixed it. I cannot remove the update via Recovery Console area i have to revert to System Restore. I have now blocked updates via Policy Editor but i need help on finding out how i can move forward and why this update is breaking my Pc.

    :)

  2. KB5003173, has been removed from my update queue

    Windows 10 Pro - Version 20H2 (OS Build 19042.928)

    Howdy Folks *Smile

My Group Policies WU - being set for 'Notify for Download and Install' - has held KB5003173 in queue since it first appeared. This morning it is gone.

Is there any word on MS recalling this update?

TIA for thoughts, comments and suggestions.
    *Cool

Edit: FWIW, WUMT still shows it being available; a *double check* of installed files (in case it somehow slipped by) does not show it installed.

    BSOD- atikmpag.sys

This is most likely due to an installation/upgrade error with ATI driver's. I suggest doing DriveSweeper and the following:
    • Drivesweeper all drivers & in Safe Mode
    • Unistall all drivers that aren't used in DriveSweeper (CCC Profiler Updates, MSI AfterBurner, anything related to ATI that use's it's drivers.)
    • After you do this, the first thing you need to do is go into Device Manager and Unistall your ATI Drivers

Once your done, restart the PC and then try installing the latest drivers.

I had several issues with this in the past, but I overcame it with logical reasoning and whenever I have a driver issue, I just use these steps and I always overcome the problem.

    Best of luck! *Toast :toast:

    BSOD with Update KB5003173

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond BSOD with Update KB5003173 :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.
