Windows 10: BSODs, browser crashes, and corrupted images

Hi, I'd appreciate any help I can get on this one. A couple of days ago, whenever I used Chrome or Edge, the window would close as soon as I started typing in the URL bar. If I didn't do anything then the window would remain open. I ran a virus check, but couldn't come up with anything, but for the sake of completion I resintalled windows using the computer reset option. Once windows encountered a BSOD during that install with the error "CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED" Following that I installed all updates and drivers inc GPU and tried using edge and then chrome again but had the same proble

Windows 10 Recurring Crashes


Hi Tom,

Welcome to the 10forums.

As this is not a BSOD problem, this is not the right part of the forum.
There are a few suggestions I would give you, NO garantee it will help!

Daemon tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known cause for BSOD's.
Please remove Daemon Tools and run the SPTD pass through remover.

1. Uninstall Daemon Tools
2. Download the SPTD standalone installer and follow these steps:
   • Double click the executable to open it
   • Click on the button shown below

If the button is grayed out, like in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system, and you can close the window



Warning Programs that claim to update your drivers install either the wrong or corrupted drivers.
If you have installed any driver with AVG Driver Updater, please remove them as it may cause trouble.

 

Add-Ons for Firefox crash since update to 80

I left Firefox open over night and attempted to login to LastPass this morning - all the addons crashed. I had Firefox Task Manager open at the time and before attempting the login all addons were in the list and not using very much resources. After attempting login, all of the addons disappeared from the Firefox Task Manager list.

I will try the additional suggestions.

If I want to try a new profile without losing my saved/sync profile (and hopefully with the option of syncing my data back into the new profile) what steps should I take? Or is it just a given that if it is profile corruption, the sync profile is junk...?
