Updating bootcamp external SSD usb3 to 1709?

Is there a way to force win 10 1709 to update a 1703 installation thats on an external usb3 ssd? Tried the media creation tool method, didnt work.. just to make it clear, im running win10 from a external ssd, (not just installing from usb...)

I originally had to do registry mod on an internal bootcamp partition install, to clone and allow it to boot from an external, but it always fails major feature updates, and i have to repeat the entire bootcamp installation process all over again, apps and
all............ Im at that force update stage and stuck in the perpetual upgrade fail, Ive tried everything i can find to freeze at v1703 but nothing seems to stop the recurring forced feature update attempting (even though its guaranteed to fail).

    thanks,

    kdog

Wireless Mouse stops working when external HDD plugged in to USB3 port

I have a minor but annoying problem and can't find a solution....

My wireless mouse stops working when an external USB3 HDD is plugged in to USB3 port. The mouse is about 3 feet away from the receiver.

My mouse is a Logitech M310.

    • I don't have the problem if a USB 2 external HDD is connected to either a USB2 or USB3 port.
    • I have moved the mouse receiver to different ports on both the front and back of the computer but this doesn't change anything.
    • If I move the mouse very close to the receiver (a couple of inches), it works so it seems that the wireless range is reduced when the USB3 HDD is plugged in.
    • If I connect a wired mouse, it works fine.
    • I have 2 USB3 ports and the problem is the same on both.
    • If the USB3 HDD is connected to a USB2 port, the mouse works normally.
    • I changed the battery in the mouse but this didn't help.
    • the USB3 HDD is a WD Passport that is self powered through the USB port.

    Any suggestions?

SSD as external drives - USB3 connector -- M2 vs standard 2.5 inch: @jimbo: plenty of options for M.2 based non-NVMe SSDs but you're right about the native NVMe devices (like the Samsung 950, 960, and so forth devices). I've played with so much of this hardware, I frankly forgot that the native NVMe solution, when you don't have an NVMe slot...
