    My simple question is:

"Has any non-insider been able to get permanent activation from official KMS servers before?"

    *Huh

KMS activation is for 180 days only, I believe. It then has to be reactivated for a further 180 days. Thus not permanent.

Furthermore, the key may be blacklisted as it has come from a source that should not be distributing it, and the KMS server you used may be persuaded to close down, since it should not be used to activate illicit keys.

@ Slartybart - So that's where I read it! Nowhere else on the internet from official MS sources though?

Hey jimbo, what is the text to enter in the command prompt to check if you are "permanently activated" ? I can't read it on my screen. Thanks, jgcjr

    From the command prompt:
    slmgr/xpr

    And winver gives you information.

When posting a Home key which part do I post, that last 5 or the first 5? I wanted to see if the home key is duplicated on 10240 as well. I am going to do a test as well. I am going to try a clean install and see if it activates without a Microsoft account.

  11. In this case Permanently Activated isn't really permanently activated. Not the way some of you are thinking. I get the same thing if I run that command on my Windows 8.1 PC. I take it to mean your not running a trial version or VL KMS activation etc. If Microsoft blacklists that key you'll fail activation. As far as I know Windows tries to verify activation status every time you boot up. I get that same message on build 10240, and I have not opted out of the insiders program. I originally did an upgrade from Windows 7.

I ment the possible issue with build 10240 expiration date.
So we will get the upgrade from build 10240 to the final on/about the 29th.. Am I thinking correctly about this?
