Windows 10: build 9879 clean install with duel boot.

HI all,
I have a partitioned drive running win 7 and win 10tp. I am just downloading 9879 build iso to perform a clean install.
i have read on the forums that this build is causing duel boot problems and trashing the win7 (which is my primary boot O/S)partition. the internet installed 9879 build seems to be o/k in duel boot.

is it advisable to do a clean install with the downloaded 9879 iso? on my exsisting win 10 partition as i did with the last build?.

any quick replies welcome (raring to go as usual).

Successfully updated from 9860 to 9879 on 12/01/14. Don't know why it worked this time, since Win10 has not been booted since the failure on 11/25/14.

BTW, after the failure, it automatically reverted back to 9860.

So, I'm on build 10162. I have had problems with every build except the first one, was it 9879? Anyway, I was able to fix it in one previous build, the one right before 10049. In that build, I installed the correct graphics and coprocessor drivers and it
fixed the problem. Since then, the fix no longer works. I have fixed every issue but sound.

I'm not sure how a clean install will help. That will unfix all the fixes I made, without installing the correct drivers. I will try the compatibiity mode tomorrow, though.

 

I haven't experienced any problems with dual booting in the manner you suggest. Windows 10 will, of course, take over as the principle boot manager.
Best, for your own piece of mind, is to make a good image of Windows 7 before you start, including the MBR if you image program gives that option. You are then safe and, further, can,if you wish, re establish the image and regain the windows 7 boot manager.

I have not had a problem either.it was just that some people seemed to be having problems. normally i would do as you sugested but the only place i can creat an img. of my win 7 is on my girlfriends pc in the next room and she is busy using it playing king games on face book (important you know). iv`e recently installed my backup drive in my pc as its cradle adapter fried and have not got around to repairing it.
What i have now is the downloaded ISO. and the ESDtoISO i created; of the installed 9879(this morning install).
what do advise i use?.

Make a third partition ???. I guess you have the room?

 

i do not have the room.

I am going to install from the ESDtoISO as i did on last build change and pray, all my important stuff is backed up anyway for win 7 on my internal second drive.

If not too late? Make sure you have the partitions very clearly labelled. Too easy to install on the wrong one.

 

no what you mean about labelling them did it the other week but i only extracted a file for a game to the wrong drive. but it made me aware of what you mean.

anyway the ESDtoISO did not work it Kept giving me an error after saying the ISO was created sucsesfuly and left no iso or data in the ESD folder that i had made on my internal back up drive. so i have now done a new clean install with the downloaded ISO. I will work with this build as before for a few more days untill the next build.
Most important having no problems with duel boot so FAR.

not 100% on this but I think the issues with booting to win7 will come when win10 takes over the boot info ,and when win10 preview no longer work ,and you delete the partition and try to boot to the win7 partition

you may be right there,but hopefully there will be a link explaining what to do. What "caperjack" is true as I got into a BSOD loop. You can avoid this by setting W7 as your default OS in "msconfig".

I'm on a dual-boot as well but physical separate drives. Even with W7 as the default OS is you shut down from W10TP, on startup, it starts from the W10TP with the blue OS selection screen but W7 is still the default. Not sure why/how it bypasses the BIOS setting under this startup? *Confused

 

I think my suggestion in Post #2 , of re establishing the image, after the Windows 10 installation, will solve those problems.
