Windows 10: built in microphone

I recently tried to connect my computer with steamlink. Once I done it the steam link replaced my built in mic and could not find it the disconnected devices. I managed to uninstall steam and its virtual devices and I finally found my laptop's built in mic. The only problem now is that it appears disconnected and it wont allow me to connect it back. It does not have any popup message just the section of enabling it is blurry and cannot select enable. Please help me!

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps

Method 1: I suggest you to set microphone as default device and check.

• 
  Right click on the volume icon in the system tray and then click "Recording devices"
  
• 
  Right click on the blank space in the popped up window and then select "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices".
  
• 
  Right click on Microphone and then click "Enable".
  
• 
  Highlight the microphone and then choose "Set as Default Device".
  
• 
  Click Apply and OK.
  

Step 2: Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled.

• 
  Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled. Follow the steps given to check that:
  
• 
  Right click on the volume icon and select “Recording devices”.
  
• 
  Now, Right Click on an empty space and select, “Show disconnected devices” and “Show disabled devices”.
  
• 
  Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled.
  

And also update the audio drivers from the manufacturer web site and install.

Method 1: Hardware Troubleshooter

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with hardware and devices. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your Microphone. Refer these steps:

• 1. Press Windows key +X, select Control panel
  
  2. Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons
  
  3. Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel
  
  4. Run the Hardware and devices.

Check if it helps.



If the issue persists, I suggest you to download and install the latest audio drivers from the computer manufacturer website and check if it helps.

SB had issue (twice now) where the Realtek built-in microphone didn't work when I was skyped. Rather than shutting down and rebooting the whole SB, I tried in Sound/Properties to disable the device so I could then enable the device.

But when I disabled, the microphone disappeared completely. Tried reinstalling drivers, uninstalled Realtek drivers, and reinstalled. Bluetooth headset works. Plugged in (3.5 mm) headset works - but not the built in microphone as it doesn't even appear
in the list.

Called MS tech support, but all they know how to do is read off a script. There last suggestion was to re-install the machine. Sounds like a sledgehammer for a fly solution.

Any ideas?
