Windows 10: Built-in VPN client fails after update 1903

There is continuous problem with VPN client after applying 1903 update.


I've already complained about VPN client not working until system reboot after installing the update.


Now I'd like to report another issue with the built-in VPN client: when used once, it doesn't work for the second time until the system is reset by putting it asleep, hybernated or rebooted.


The scenario is as follows:

- open VPN Settings via Action Center

- connect the client using stored connection settings - first connection is successful

- disconnect

- try to connect for the second time using the same sequence

- connection fails - it looks like the system simply ignores clicking the [Connect] button - you can click it as many times as you want, it just doesn't work

- close the notebook lid and wait until it is asleep

- open and start the notebook

- try to connect VPN again - now it works


All this is rather frustrating. With every Windows update I encounter some weird problems that take my time time to fix it. For quite some time it was resetting my monitor calibration settings. Now it's this VPN problems.


Sometimes I consider applying for a position at your QA team, because you do have QA problems with recent versions of your products. (Will be glad to share my 20+ years of experience in software development, for that matter. I'm Canadien resident).

Windows 10 Pro 1903 l2tp/ipsec psk vpn not working

Hello everyone,

after the upgrade to 1903, my vpn is not working anymore, the popup for user login is not showed and it remains in "connecting" state.

The vpn is an l2tp/ipsec with preshared key, using the built-in vpn client.

I don't see packets coming on vpn server side.

On both updated laptops the behavior is the same, on not updated computers the vpn is working fine.

Someone is having the same problem?

Someone has suggestions on how to solve it?

Best FREE vpn client? Need to connect to my home VPN


I created a remote access VPN (l2tp/ipsec) on my router at my house. If I want to connect to my VPN server remotely ,what do you suggest as a good free vpn client?

I know windows 10 has a built in vpn client, but would I notice any improvments (speed, stability, etc) using like cisco anywhere connect or any other free vpn clients?
