I'm not sure what alt codes are suppose to do. Pressing alt+7 or alt+8 doesn't seem to be doing anything within Microsoft Word.

Thanks You for your instructions but I found an easier way. I downloaded the Take Ownership reg file and took control of the fonts folder that way. It unfortunately didn't fix the problem. I have your font file installed and replaced in the fonts folder but my bullet points are still not working.

No. cannot replace the font while the system is in operation because it is being used. Replacing the symbols font will just add an invisible numbered file. need to open the command prompt in advanced options when the os is not running to be able to replace the symbol font. The video will be posted soon. I was just hung up with something else.

To install new fonts you must login with an Administrator account. Another way is to open the classic Control Panel (search for control to see the link) and then open Fonts. Then drag and drop the TTF file there to install it. Replace when asked.

Thanks for posting the video. I followed your instructions. A note, when I attempted to view the directory of the fonts folder inside command prompt, it only showed me about 1/15 of the fonts installed. It wouldn't let me scroll up past the fonts beginning with U. I have a lot of custom fonts installed and it wouldn't let me go as high as the S's. This unfortunately has not helped, my bullet library is still like my screenshot. *Sad I like to use the square bullet point but can see no way of accessing it now.

I don't think there is anything wrong with my symbol font file, and now I am using yours, I ddefinitely know it's fine. Outside of Microsoft Office, I am experiencing issues too, look at the tick symbol in the tick box, it's actually now a rectangle. See picture below:

You could press Win+X and select to open a Command Prompt as Administrator. Then execute sfc /scannow This will fix any errors in system files and may solve your problem. Another thought is you may use a non-supported locale. Search for Language and click to open the Language control. Then on the left click Change date, time and number formats. Click the Administrative tab and then click Change system locale. Set that to your own language and see if the font problems fix.

It's definitely a problem with a font. It's a matter of finding that font...

Use Winaero Tweaker to change the system fonts and see if this works. I think the default is Segoe UI or similar. Try Arial.

I am not familiar with the font used for system icons, I know one is marlett.ttf. Can anybody enlighten us on what font the check mark in the open with dialog is? It's definitely a font because I deleted all of the fonts on a virtual machine and the check box no longer appeared.

I ran an sfc /scannow but it found no problems. The system locale is already set to my own country (United KIngdom)

I see two font options in this program, I changed both options from Segoe UI to Verdana. I know this worked because the fonts within Mozilla Firefox now look different. Changing the font didn't help though *Sad What font is the tick boxes and bulletpoints using? There is a restore system fonts option in control panel but it's useless, it doesn't appear to do anything.

There are several font options in Winaero Tweaker. Try changing them all, and you should find the right one. Maybe the one you are looking for is the message window font.

I tried changing the font to verdana for:

    - Menus
    - Window Title Bars
    - Icons
    - Message Font
    - Statusbar Font

I then rebooted but it did not help. I know the fonts have changed, I can see that system fonts are set to Verdana.

You can try repair your system files with sfc /scannow. If you still have the first build (10240) try upgrading to the new build 10586. It will replace all system files including fonts and could fix it.

As I already said on page 1 of this thread, I've tried sfc /scannow but it didn't find any problems. I am running build 10240. Why isn't 10586 part of Windows update? How do I install the 10586 update? I downloaded the TechBench file but I don't understand it. Will I have problem with applications not working/being uninstalled and losing personal files?

Running the setup from the ISO you downloaded will upgrade build 10240 to 10586. You won't lose any applications or data, it is an in-place upgrade (like upgrading from 7 or 8 to 10). The only annoying issue is that all your drivers are replaced with generic drivers from Windows Update, so you have to reinstall them (starting with chipset) to get full functionality of your hardware again. Any customization (colors, fonts etc) is canceled and you have to do it again. That's all.
