    Burning to cd


    Unfortunately, the 'wow' was for finding out how to get Command Prompt Administrator. However, Rocky showed me how to use it but sadly, the path wasn't recognised so no further forward but at least the command didn't hurt the PC. My computer man was no help so I guess I'll have to live without a DVD drive until you nice people on the forum might come up with some more suggestions.

    Did you try uninstalling the two things from device manager?(ATA Channel 0 and ATA Channel 1) There also may be a listing for an Unknown Device. If so, uninstall that too. Then reboot.

    I've got two of both ATA Channels 0 and 1. Should I uninstall all of them? I do not have any listing for an Unknown Device. If I uninstall the above and it does not cure the problem can I reinstall them? And what do these devices do? I'm so grateful for all the help I'm getting. This is a great forum.

    Burning to cd

    They will be reinstalled when you restart the machine. Yes , uninstall all of them. You should only have one of each and having 2 may be the problem. They are the things responsible for detecting and running connected drives.

    Yippee! The drive is back. Uninstalled as suggested, restarted, and drive is there.
    Thanks so much guys for all your help, made a 70 year old novice very happy. Now all I've got to do is remember what I wanted to use the drive for *Party.
